New Lisbon Dam Structure Damaged
The New Lisbon Dam Structure has not been compromised but is suffering damage. According to the New Lisbon Police Department the wooden timbers that go across the spillway to hold water back broke. Public Works is aware of the situation and are working to fix the issue. For any questions contact Nick Wyss (New Lisbon Public Works Director) at 608-562-5213 option 2.
Texas Man Arrested for Sexual Exploitation of Hillsboro Minor
Hillsboro Police Chief Patrick Clark announced that on September 11th 2023, at around 1:50pm, the Hillsboro Police Department was informed about a minor who resides in Hillsboro, being sexually exploited on social media sites, the Hillsboro Police Department identified the suspect as 17 year old Pablo Lee Jimenez Cruz of Longview, Texas. The Hillsboro Police Department was assisted in the investigation and subsequent apphrension of the suspect by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Hillsboro Area School District, and the Longview Police Department. Authorities in Texas executed a search warrant at the suspects residence and took Pablo Lee Jimenez Cruz into custody, in addition numerous electronic devices were also seized. Through this investigation it was further discovered that there were other victims in Illinois and New York.
Authorities stated that Jimenez Cruz will be charged as an adult in Texas. The investigation is still under investigation, with all the Hillsboro reports transferred to the Longview Police Department. Hillsboro and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department will also be referring charges locally on this suspect with the assistance of the Vernon County District Attorney’s Office.

Falk, Dennis Aruthur Age 84 of Adams County
On March 30th 2024 DENNIS ARTHUR FALK, a beloved Husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully in his home among loved ones and friends. He was 84 years young, always a child at heart.
Dennis was born to Joseph (Arthur) Falk and Ethel Mae Simpson June 18, 1939 in Andrew County, Missouri. As a young child his family moved to Aurora, Illinois. Returning every summer to work on family farms in Missouri. His Mother would have loved for him to become a priest, but that was not in his cards, with his thirst for knowledge, adventure, and an affinity for work ethic. He met his wife, Peggy Hansen while ice skating when they were young adults, what a lifetime they’ve created! He married young and had 5 children.
They lived first in Aurora, IL. Dennis worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as an electrician. He went to work for General Mills for 2 years in maintenance and then was hired on with Johnson Controls as a pneumatic and electronic technician. After moving the family to Wisconsin he was employed with Castle Rock Container as head of maintenance. During this time, Dennis and Peggy owned Four Seasons Café, where the whole family worked. After that adventure they purchased a 172 acre farm in Springville township as Dennis always wanted a farm. After that endeavor Dennis and Peggy moved to Albuquerque where, eventually they owned and ran Park Ponderosa Steakhouse & Saloon, while still with Johnson Controls. They came back to Wisconsin after about 10 years out west. Eventually choosing life back in Adams County where they “Bar rescued” Tiny’s Bar & Restaurant turning it into Quincy’s Bar & Restaurant which they owned and operated for several years. He and Peggy proceeded to renovate the house with it and several other homes they have lived in. Subsequently they owned and operated Ranks Tavern until leasing it out.
Dennis was a charming, well spoken, charismatic soul who loved to bring a crowd to laughter. He loved to play his guitar and sing and entertain with his beloved wife. He was a member of Vern Hammond and The Loners Band playing guitar and singing and performed all over Adams County back in the 70’s. He loved fishing and boating on Castle Rock Lake, where he also was a guide. His other interests included hunting, sharpening his knife collection, watching and interacting with wildlife as well as watching WWE. He was an NRA Lifelong member. He was an avid motorcycling enthusiast and passed that love to his grandson. He tried his hand at magician-ship and practiced hypnotism. He was a published author and profound poet. He wrote for outdoorsman and motorcycling magazines. He even taught electronics classes for MSTC. Dennis loved the theater and was a member of The Sand County Players.
Dennis and Peggy enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Mexico. He had healing hugs and often remarked “take as much as you need.”
Survived by his wife Peggy: children, Kevin A. Falk (Robin Elkington) Valerie L. Falk, Phyllis K. Licthy (David Burris) and Cora E. Dellinger (Jamie S. Dellinger): sister Michelle Moore: many grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Phillip L. Falk, daughter Denise M. Gabiga, Daughter in law Cheryl A. Falk
Visitation will be Friday April 5th at 11a.m.with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at Roseberry’s Funeral Home. A Luncheon will be served after the services.
Hickey, Maureen Ellen Age 86 of Mauston
Maureen Ellen Hickey, aged 86, of Mauston, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Fair View Nursing Home. Maureen was Born August 29, 1937, in Buffalo, NY to former major league pitcher John A, and Helen M. (Williams) Quinlan. Her roots were firmly planted in a family that cherished sports, education, and community.
A proud graduate of the Sister’s of St. Francis Sacred Heart Academy in Buffalo, NY, Maureen’s early education played a significant role in shaping her compassionate and giving nature. On September 29, 1956, Maureen’s heart was joined in matrimony with Dennis G. Hickey at St. James Catholic Church in her hometown. Their loving partnership was blessed with three sons: Patrick, Dennis Guy Jr., and AL.
Throughout her life, Maureen’s journey took her and her family from the East Coast to the vibrant landscapes of California, New Mexico, and finally to Wisconsin. Each place she lived was made warmer by her presence and the connections she built with those around her.
Maureen’s life was marked by an unwavering commitment to volunteering. She dedicated 30 years to the Hospital Auxiliary, where she could often be found brightening the days of those who visited the Thrift Shop. Her altruistic spirit extended to the Ladies of the Moose, where she served for an impressive 50 years, embodying the organization’s values of care and community service.
Surviving Maureen are her two sons, Patrick (Kim) of New Lisbon, WI, and AL (Lorie) of Mauston, WI. She also leaves behind her treasured grandson, Michael Hickey of New Lisbon, WI, and her sisters, Shirley Isch of Buffalo, NY, and Catherine Beall of El Paso, TX. Maureen was preceded in passing by her parents, her devoted husband Dennis G. Hickey in 2019, her son Dennis Guy Jr. in 2009, and her sister Patricia Gould.
Those who knew Maureen will fondly remember her love for her cat Spook, and her hands that were rarely still, as she found joy in crocheting and knitting. She had a particular fondness for the color purple, which always seemed to reflect her thoughtful and dignified nature.
As we bid farewell to Maureen E. Hickey, we celebrate her life that was filled with love, service, and the creation of countless warm memories. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her, and her spirit will remain a guiding light for her family and all who cherished her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hare Funeral Home (217W Pearl St.) in New Lisbon, WI on Monday April 8, 2024 from 3:00p.m. until 6:00p.m. Memorials may be given to the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter in Mauston, WI. Online condolences are available at www.harefuneralhome.com.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Adams County
Pfeiffer, Debra Lynn Age 67 of Adams
Debra Lynn (Meidenbauer) Pfeiffer, 67, of Adams, WI, died in her home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
She was born in Waukesha, WI in 1956 to John and Marcella Meidenbauer. Debra worked for Adams County Health & Human Services Department as an economic support worker where she helped many of the elderly and disabled community members. She also worked together with her husband as an office manager where she took care of the books for their business, Pfeiffer’s Auto Repair. Debra met the love of her life, Bill, in 1987 in Adams, WI, after repairing her car. They started dating and their love story began. After many trips around the sun, they decided to take a trip to Roswell, New Mexico, where they joined in matrimony on March 7, 2006.
Debra enjoyed many activities like gardening, traveling, sewing, baking, camping, boating, bowling, golfing, but especially spending quality time with family.
Debra was preceded in death by John and Marcella Meidenbauer (Parents), Dawn Balistreri (sister), and Kenneth Balistreri (Nephew).
Debra is survived by her loving husband Bill Pfeiffer, her siblings: John (Denise) Meidenbauer, her children: Michelle (Erik) Jorgensen, William Roberts, her grandchildren: Kalie (Christopher) Crum, Alyssa Hickey, Colton Roberts, her great-grandchildren: Amiyah Crum, Ryiah Roberts, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Debra will always be remembered for her sweet treats and the way that she cared for the birds and her gardening with all the beautiful flowers she grew. We’ll always imagine hearing her say
Bill, turn that music down” or “Hi honey” to her grandchildren one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better wife, mother, sister, grandmother and will miss her every day. Her
memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
