Hillsboro Softball Team Upsets Royall with Extra Inning Walk-Off
The Hillsboro Tigers softball team earned a big walk-off upset victory over Royall Thursday night. It took a half hour lightning delay plus and extra inning for the big moment to happen for the Tigers. Hillsboro worked a scoreless top of the 8th inning; in the bottom of the 8th Royall was able to get the first two batters out before Elizabeth Cairns drew a walk. Cairns would steal 2nd base to get into scoring position for Sydney Hemmersbach who dumped in a base hit to left field to allow the speedy Cairns to score the game winning run for the Tigers. Cairns went 2×3 with a double in 2RBI’s in the victory; Harper Sullivan went 2×4 with and RBI, while Hemmersbach went 2×5 with the game winner. Aubryn Herritz picked up the win in the circle giving up just 2earned runs over 8innings while striking out 7 and walking 3. Elizabeth Klipstein went 2×4 with 2RBI’s for the Panthers who dropped their first conference game of the year and fall to 6-1 in conference play. Hillsboro improves to 3-2 in the conference and 4-4 overall.
Royall Softball Wins Extra Inning Thriller Over Bangor in 1st Place Bluffs Battle
The Royall Panthers Softball Team won a tough 1st place battle over the Bangor Cardinals 6-5 in a 9inning affair Tuesday evening. The game went back n forth with both teams exchanging leads. Royall led 4-2 going into the top of the 7th inning but Bangor scored a pair and blanked Royall in the bottom half to force extra innings. Royall and Bangor both went scoreless in the 8th inning before Bangor took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 9th on an RBI Single by Erin Jones. Royall was able to turn a double play to get out of further trouble in the inning setting up the bottom of the 9th heroics. Layla Marty led off the bottom half on a 2 base throwing error by Bangor, Brooklyn Mckittrick and Elizabeth Klipstein were both able to reach on bunt singles to load the bases. Bangor was able to get a force out at home on the next batter but with the bases loaded and just one out Royall senior Bria Gruen came up with a walk off two run single to deliver the victory for the Panthers. Gruen went 2×4 in the victory while Brooklyn McKittrick went 3×3 with 3RBI’s for the Panthers. Erin Jones went 3×5 with 4RBI’s for Bangor. Brynn Olson was the winning pitcher for Royall going all 9innings giving up 5runs on 10hits walking 7 and striking out 8. Royall improves to 6-0 in the conference while Bangor drops to 4-1.
Brookwood Rallies Past Royall in SBC Baseball Thriller
The Brookwood Falcons baseball team used a 2 run 6th inning to rally past Royall 3-2 Monday night. Royall grabbed the lead in the top of the 3rd on an RBI single by Trey Wildes only to see Brookwood tie the game in the bottom half at 1-1. Royall re-took the lead in the 4th on a Braxton Board RBI single to go up 2-1. Royall had a chance to add to their lead in the 5th but Brookwood foiled a double steal attempt by the Panthers to keep the deficit at 2-1. Brookwood went to work in the 6th inning with 4 straight singles to start the inning capped off by a game tying single by Brennan Mack and the go ahead single by Cullen Brueggeman to put Brookwood up 3-2. Brennan Mack would retire all 3 batters he faced in the top of the 7th to preserve the win for the Falcons and pick up the save. Drew Thurston picked up the win for the Falcons pitching one scoreless inning in relief of starter Owen Wang. Trey Wildes took the loss for Royall. Cullen Brueggeman went 2×3 for the Falcons at the plate while Thurston went 3×3 and a double. Wildes went 2×4 with an RBI for the Panthers. Brookwood improves to 3-1 in the conference and 6-1 overall, Royall drops to 3-1 overall and within the conference.

Edgerton Powers New Lisbon Softball Past Wonewoc-Center
The New Lisbon Rockets softball team won a slugfest over Wonewoc-Center 14-6 Monday evening. The game was closer than the final score would indicate. New Lisbon got off to a 10-3 lead after 4innings thanks to a big 2nd inning where they would push across 7runs led by a basses clearing double by Karey Edgerton. Edgerton would drive in two more runs in the 4th inning to increase the rockets lead to 10-3 however Wonewoc-Center would battle back with a 3 run 6th to get within 10-6. New Lisbon got 4 big insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th to pull away. Karey Edgerton had a big game at the plate for the Rockets going 4×4 with 5RBIs. Joss Clark went 2×3 with an RBI for New Lisbon. Haylie Sjostrom went 2×2 for Wonewoc-Center while Eastyn Frye went 2×3 and Olivia Barreau had a 2 run double to pace the Wolves offense. Arria Knee got the win inside the circle for the Rockets pitching the first 5 inning giving up just 3runs 2earned on 5 hits walking 2 and striking out 6. Avery Miller took the loss in the circle for Wonewoc-Center. New Lisbon improves to 3-2 on their season.
Royall Comeback Effort Falls Short at Copeland
The Royall Panther softball teams comeback effort came up just short in an 11-9 loss to Riverdale at Copeland Park in La Crosse Friday evening. Royall had the tying runs on base in the top of the 7th but were caught trying to steal 2nd base to end the game. Bria Gruen went 3×4 with a pair of RBI’s in the loss for Royall while Kayla Rick went 2×4 with an RBI. Royall had fallen behind 11-4 before attempting to mount the comeback. Lilly Barr and Leah Hinkle each had a pair of hits for the Chieftains. Royall drops to 3-2 on their season while Riverdale improves to 4-2.

New Lisbon Track & Field had a strong showing on their home track Saturday, with multiple athletes earning top-4 finishes against a competitive field of 13 teams from Division 2 and Division 3.

Royall Baseball Uses Meteor of Hits to Defeat Space Birds
The Royall Baseball team moved to 2-0 on their season with a 10-1 victory over the New Lisbon/Necedah Space Birds Thursday night. Royall jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Trey Wildes, Jett Bender, Braxton Board and Easton Wopat all had multiple hits in the victory. Board was also strong on the mound going 5innings giving up just 1run on 1hit while striking out 7 and walking 4. Colby Schroeder pitched 2 perfect innings of relief striking out 5 Space Bird batters. Brady Keller had the first and only hit and run of the game in the Space Birds first ever game as part of the Necedah/New Lisbon Co-Op. Brady Cross took the loss for the Space Birds giving up 6runs on 8hits walking only 2 and striking out 5 in 5innings. New Lisbon/Necedah drops to 0-1.
Pitching & Defense Lead Royall To Opening Season Baseball Victory
The Royall Panther baseball team opened up their 2026 season with a 3-1 SBC victory over Cashton Tuesday night. It was a pitching duel to start the game between Royall’s Trey Wildes and Cashtons Drew Butzler. Wildes went 5 scoreless innings scattering 4hits walking 3 and striking out 7. Royall took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning on an RBI single from Braxton Board. It was the only run of the game given up by Butzler who went 4inning giving up 1run on 3hits and striking out 6. Cashton tied the game in th 6th inning on an RBI fielders choice by Dylan Hoeft. Royall went right back to work in the top of the 7th Jason Johnson reached on an error and Kyler Lawry walked to start the 7th, they advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Bentley Rozek came up and grounded to short but Johnson scored to give Royall the lead they would get a big insurance run on an RBI Single by Trey Wildes. Jett Bender worked around a hit and a walk to pitch a scoreless inning in the 7th to preserve the victory for Royall. Royall’s defense was relatively strong in the game gunning down 3 Cashton would be runners at home plate. Bender was the winning pitcher for Royall while Owen Von Ruden was the losing pitcher. Braxton Board had a pair of hits to lead Royall offensively. Natake Shigata went 2×4 for the Eagles. Royall improves to 1-0 while Cashton drops to 0-1.
Mauston Softball Wins 1st Varsity Game in 3 Years
The Mauston Golden Eagle Softball team got their first win over a varsity opponent since 2023 by downing Wonewoc-Center 15-9 Monday evening. Mauston dug themselves and early hole falling behind 7-3. The Golden Eagles responded by scoring 9runs in the 4th inning to seize control of the game and pick up the victory. Riley Bluhm had a 2 run double to lead the Mauston offense. Sophia Brummond picked up the win in the circle for Mauston. Brummond got off to a rough start giving up 7 runs over the first two innings but behind a strong defense behind her Brummond settled in giving up just 2 runs over the final 4 innings. Faith Daugs went 2×3 to lead the Wonewoc-Center offense. Mauston improves to 1-1 on their season while Wonewoc-Center drops to 0-1.
