Deceased Male Discovered in Necedah Township
On 05/10/2024, at about 10:59am, the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a call at N9553 11th Ave South, Necedah Township, in regards to a male subject not breathing. Upon arrival, responding deputies and Mauston Area Ambulance discovered a deceased adult male. As a result of the discovery, the death is being investigated by the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time, no further information will be released as the investigation is ongoing. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
We ask that the public respect the privacy of those involved and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

Golden Eagles Baseball Defeats Wautoma
The Mauston Golden Eagles baseball team remained in first place in the South Central Conference with a 6-1 victory over Wautoma Thursday night. Brock Massey had a big game pitching 6 strong innings giving up just 1 run on 1 hit 1 walk and 10 strikeouts. Massey went 2×3 at the plate while teammate Isaac Steinke also went 2×3 with an RBI. Mauston improves to 7-1 in the conference and 14-3 overall. Watuoma drops to 5-3 in the conference and 9-7 overall. Mauston will host Wisconsin Dells on Tuesday with both teams having a chance to clinch a share of the SCC title with a victory.
Harrison, Gladys D. Age 93 of Tomah & Formerly of New Lisbon
Gladys D. Carter Harrison age 93 of Tomah, formerly of New Lisbon passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, at the age of 93 at the Serenity House in Tomah, WI. Born in the rural heartlands of Wilton, Wisconsin, on a farm on August 23, 1930 to Fred and Leona (Pasch) Saxby.
Gladys taught school, then went to raise her family, and later she went back to teaching school. She spent most of her life in Waterford, WI and also Ripon and DeSoto. She was united to in marriage to William Kenneth Carter on June 10, 1950 and he later preceded her in death. She later married Robert Harrison on June 2, 2012 in Kendall at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Gladys’s journey was one of lifelong learning and service. After graduating from high school, she expanded her horizons at JCTC and UW Whitewater, where she specialized in special needs education. Her passion for teaching and her profound empathy for others led her to a distinguished career as a special needs teacher, where she touched the lives of countless individuals with her warmth and dedication.
Her commitment to her community was unwavering. Gladys’s spirit of volunteerism shone brightly as she dedicated her time to the New Lisbon Community Closet and the New Lisbon Food Pantry, ensuring that those around her had the support and resources they needed. Her efforts did not go unnoticed, as evidenced by her being honored with the New Lisbon Citizen of the Year award in 1997, a testament to her generous spirit and dedication to the welfare of others.
In addition to her professional and volunteer work, Gladys was a member of the Lioness Club and the Retired Teachers Association, further contributing to the community she cherished so deeply.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, Robert Harrison, of Tomah, and cherished the memories they created together. She is further survived by her son, Craig (Carolyn) Carter of Argyle, WI, sister-in-law Sharon Saxby of Wanakee, WI, stepdaughters, Vicki L. Boeder of Reeseville, WI, and Barbara J. Brieske of Tomah, WI. Gladys’s warmth extended to her grandchildren, Alexandria Carter, Katrina (Brogan) Potter, David Carter, Scott (Kristy) Carter, and Erica (Martin) Kempf, and to her eight great-grandchildren, who will carry her legacy forward.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Kenneth, her son Richard, and her two brothers, Harold and Raymond.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.in St. Lukes Evangelical Lutheran Church (208 Alan Rd.) New Lisbon, WI, with Pastor Jason Zuehlke presiding. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the New Lisbon City Cemetery. The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting with the arrangements. Online condolences are available at www.harefuneralhome.com.

Bangor Takes Down Wonewoc-Center in Softball Action
The Bangor Cardinals downed Wonewoc-Center 7-2 in softball action Wednesday evening. Bangor jumped out in front in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Abby Langehr. Wonewoc-Center tied it on a sac bunt by Brooklyn Bolton in the 2nd inning but after that it was all Bangor. Jade Robinson hit a 2 run homerun in the 3rd inning to give Bangor a lead they would never relinquish. Abby Langehr finished 4×5 with a pair of RBIs at the plate and also picked up the win in the circle for the Cardinals. Kelsey Justman went 2×3 with a triple for the Wolves. Wonewoc-Center drops to 6-6 in the conference and 8-7 overall. Bangor improves to 6-4 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference.
Blood Center of Wisconsin and Mile Bluff Medical Center collaborate Blood Drive
Mile Bluff Medical Center partners with Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin to host multiple blood drives throughout the year. In April, the two-day drive was a great success, exceeding Versiti’s goal of collecting 56 blood products. Mile Bluff employees and community members came together to donate over 148 life-saving gifts.
These events are not only about collecting blood, but also about taking responsibility to ensure adequate resources are available to the community. This vital supply helps to support and save many lives, including those of patients with blood disorders who rely on frequent transfusions as part of their treatment.

38 Year Old Necedah Man Caught Setting Fires
On Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 5:35 pm, the Juneau County Communications Center received a report of a camper on fire, and a possible explosion, at N10311 16th Avenue, Necedah Township. Responding deputies discovered two campers were completely engulfed. The Necedah Fire Department and WI DNR were paged to respond to the fire. The Adams Fire Department was mutual aided to assist. While investigating the cause of the fire, Chad Norton , 38, a resident of the address, was suspected of intentionally setting the fire. At 9:39 pm, the Juneau County Sheriff’s
Office Drone Team located Norton at a property south of where the fire was located. Deputies and officers responded to the location and took Norton into custody. Norton was medically cleared and transported to the Juneau County Jail. As a result of the subsequent investigation, Norton was charged with Felony Arson of Property Other Than Building, Repeater, and Misdemeanor Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, Repeater.
On Tuesday, May 7th, Norton was given a $5,000 cash bond. He has an initial appearance scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 9:00 am.
The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New Lisbon Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Necedah Fire Department, Wisconsin DNR, Adams Fire Department and Mauston Area Ambulance.
Kemnitz, Marlyn Donald Age 74 of Tomah
Marlyn Donald Kemnitz, age 74, of Tomah, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Tomah Health, after a courageous fight to the very end with cancer.
Family and friends are invited for a visitation on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. A private funeral service will follow the visitation. Marlyn’s burial will be held at a later date in the Arthur Cemetery near Platteville, WI. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
