Tomah/SBC 16U American Legion Baseball Team Comes up Short in 3rd State bid

The Tomah/SBC 16U American Legion baseball team will not defend their 2024 State Championship. They gave it a good run in the West Salem regional going 3-2 with wins over West Salem 2-1, La Crosse A’s 8-5 and Sparta 10-0, Tomah lost to Onalaska 1-0 in their 2nd round matchup before falling to the La Crosse Juniors 8-2 in the semi-final round of the double elimination tournament. New Lisbon’s Grady Barfknect had a strong tournament batting .308 at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Barknecht also threw out numerous baserunners from behind home plate and pitched 3 scoreless innings earning the victory on the mound in their win over the La Crosse A’s. Brookwoods Brennan Mack led Tomah during the tournament with a .455 batting average and also had a team leading 4RBI’s and picked up a win on the mound during the tournament. It was a strong run for a team comprised of Tomah/New Lisbon/Brookwood/and Blair-Taylor kids.

The Tomah 16U American Legion Baseball Team opened up regional play with a 2-1 victory over West Salem. Tomah scored both of their runs in the 4th inning on an RBI fielder’s choice from Drew Thurston and an infield single from Julian Cunitz. Brennan Mack had a strong performance on the mound. The incoming Brookwood junior went 6 2/3 innings giving up just 1 unearned run while scattering 7hits walking none and striking out 3. New Lisbon’s Grady Barfknect had a big game going 2×3. Barfknect also had a big game behind home plate picking off a West Salem baserunner at first in the 5th inning and throwing out a West Salem runner at 2nd base in the 7th. The Tomah/SBC team is looking for their 3rd straight trip to the 16U State Tournament.

The Tomah/SBC 19U baseball team fell to Stoddard/De Soto 11-3 Monday night. Stoddard used a big 8 run 2nd inning to ease by Tomah. Blake Haun had an RBI Double and Kole Trapp went 2×3 with and pitched a scoreless inning on the mound for Tomah. Tomah 19U will have a pair of games on Thursday in Westby before heading to the Eau Claire AAA regional tournament next week.
The Mauston Summer baseball team won a pair of games on Monday defeating Wautoma 11-5 and winning over DeForest via forfeit. Jacob Daniels pitched solid in the first game for Mauston.

The Tomah 16U American Legion Baseball Team railed for an 8-6 victory over Osseo Tuesday evening. Tomah trailed early 3-2 but erupted for a 6th run 5th inning to earn the victory. New Lisbon’s Nate Jensen had a hit and a pair of RBI’s in the victory. Grayson Steen earned the complete game victory for Tomah. It is the final regular season game for the Tomah 16U team. They will play in the West Salem regional next Thursday at 7pm.
The Tomah 15U team fell to G-E-T 11-8 Tuesday afternoon. New Lisbon’s Cash Plueger had a base hit in the loss for Tomah 15U.

The Tomah 19u American Legion baseball team could not hold on to a lead in a 6-5 loss on the road to Holmen Monday night. Nate Hendricks, Jackson Cunitz, and Blake Haun each had a pair of hits for Tomah in the loss. The loss snapped a 4 game winning streak for the 19U Tomah team represented by kids in the Scenic Bluffs Conference as well.
The Tomah 16U baseball team swept Wisconsin Rapids Monday evening. Tomah won the first game 3-0. Brookwoods Brennan Mack picked up the win on the mound pitching 5 shutout innings. Tomah won game 2 9-5. Brookwoods Drew Thurston picked up the win in relief. Thurston and Skout Ehlers each had a pair of RBIs for Tomah.

Bangor Blasts 4th of July Night Sky in 10-0 Win vs West Salem

The Bangor American Legion Baseball team had plenty of fireworks in a 10-0 4th of July night victory over West Salem. Bangor scored 10runs on 15hits. Royall’s Seth Brandau playing for Bangor had 3 hits including a double. Brandau also scored 3runs and drove in a run. Bryce Peterson, Tyler Meyer, and Dayne Langehr also had a multi-hit game for Bangor. Chase Horstman got the win on the mound giving up just 1hit over 3 and 2/3innings. Brandau pitched the final 1 and 1/3 giving up nothing on a hit. Bangor improved to 6-2 on their season.

The Tomah/SBC American Legion baseball team won their 4th game in a row scoring 12 unanswered run in a 12-2 victory over Baraboo Wednesday evening. Baraboo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Tomah went to work in the bottom of the 4th with a 4 run inning fueled by a Blake Haun 2run single. Tomah would score 3 more runs in the 5th and 5 in the 6th to win in in 6innings. TJ Shramek went 3×4 with 3runs scored in the game and Haun went 2×4 with 3RBIs. Bobby Shaw had the mercy rule winning walk of RBI single for Tomah. Tucker Frandsen picked up the win on the mound giving up just 2runs over 5innings. Tomah improves to 7-5 on the season as is scheduled to travel to Holmen on Monday night. Jackson Steffel was also named to the American Legion All-Star game to be played at American Family Field in Milwaukee in August. The Tomah 16U team fell to Onalaska 6-4 earlier Wednesday afternoon.

The Tomah/SBC 19U baseball team used a big 2nd inning to push by Gays Mills 9-4 Tuesday evening. Tomah scored 7runs in the 2nd inning and coasted to the victory. Jackson Steffel went 2×3 with a pair of RBI’s for Tomah while Brookwoods Julian Cunitz went 1×2 with 2RBI’s and 3 steals. New Lisbon’s Nate Jensen also added a hit in Tomah’s victory. Jackson Cunitz was the winning pitcher throwing 5 2/3 innings giving up 4runs on just 2hits walking 5 and striking out 7. It’s the 3rd straight win for the Tomah/SBC squad who improves to 6-5 on their season. Gays Mills is comprised of players from Kickapoo, Wauzeak-Steuben, and Seneca.

The Mauston Golden Eagles summer baseball team won a pair of games Monday night at the Monday Woodside League. Mauston won game one 9-1 over Nekoosa. The game lasted just 5 innings due to lightning. Beef Massey got the win on the mound giving up just 1run and 2hits while striking out 7 over 5 innings. Massey was equally good at the plate where he went 2×3 with a double and 5RBI’s. Evan Parsons added a pair of hits and Jacob Daniels went 2×2 with a double in the victory. Mauston defeated Wautoma 8-6 in game 2. Evan Parsons pitched 4 innings in the victory.

The Milwaukee Bucks drafted Serbian big man Bogo-lyoob Markovic with pick number 17 of the 2nd round in the NBA draft. Markovic played in the Serbian league where he averaged 18points and 9rebounds a game. Markovic is 6’11 and won gold medal well part of the 18U Serbian national team in 2023. Markovic will stay overseas this upcoming year leaving an open roster spot for the Bucks this upcoming season.
Wisconsin Badgers John Tonje was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 53rd overall pick. Tonje scored 41 points against Arizona in a single game this last season for the Badgers.
