Mauston Volleyball Takes Down Rival Dells
The Mauston Golden Eagle Volleyball team won a thriller over Wisconsin Dells 3-2 Tuesday night. Mauston and the Dells split the first 4 sets Mauston winning sets 1 & 3 25-22 and 25-21, Wiscosnin Dells took sets 3 & 4 25-18 and 25-16. Mauston jumped out to the early lead in set 5 and hung on for the win 15-9 to pull off the victory. Bre Heller had 10kills and 3blocks for the Golden Eagles while Ellie Poullie notched 34assists. Maddie Quist added 4aces in the victory. Mauston improves to 4-1 in the South Central Conference and 10-11 overall. Mauston will host Nekoosa on Thursday night Nekoosa is just one game ahead of Mauston in the Conference standings.
Mauston Cross Country Teams Continue to Take Flight
The MHS Cross Country teams have had a very positive week of competition having three races in the last week with very positive results.
The Golden Eagles traveled to Baraboo on Tuesday September 24th to compete at the 26 annual Thunderbird Challenge. The girls team had a 5th place team finish led by senior Aleyxs Smith’s 1st place finish. The boys team placed 1st at the 2024 Thunderbird-led by senior Josh Ellerman.s 1st place finish.The boys team placed five runners in the top eleven places: Brekk Peterson 4th, Weston Pouillie 6th, Sebastian Nauquayoma 10th and Hakkon Peterson 11th.
The team traveled to Naga Waukee County park in Waukesha on Saturday September 28th to compete at the 2024 Peter Neilsen invite.. The boys team placed 1st in their division as well as placing 3rd overall in the 22 team invite.Senior Josh Ellerman raced to a 2nd place finish with a time of 16:40 for the 5K race. In the girls races, the girls team was led by senior, Aleyxs Smith’s 11th place finish out of 146 runners..
Tuesday, the teams traveled to Black River Falls to compete at the 2024 Black river Falls Invitational. The boys team raced to a 2nd place team finish out of 11 teams. West Salem won the meet with 28 points -mauston scored 34. West Salem is currently the top ranked boys CC team in Division 2 in the state of Wisconsin. The boys team swept the top two places, Josh Ellerman 1st and junior Brekk Peterson 2nd, the balance of the boys team placing:
Weston Pouillie 8th,Sebastian Naquayoma 10th,Hakkon Peterson 13th, Noah Cortez 24th,Jonah West 30th and Oscar Spindler 31st.
The teams will travel to Altoona on Saturday October 5th to compete at the 2024 Railsplitter Invite.
Juneau County Area Top 10 Prep Football Power Rankings Week 6
- Ithaca Bulldogs (6-0) – Ithaca used a big opening quarter to blow by Necedah and remains perfect on the season.
- Berlin Indians (5-1) – Berlin made easy work of Ripon blanking the Tigers 35-0 last Friday. They now await a big showdown with fellow SCC undefeated Wisconsin Dells this Friday.
- Wisconsin Dells Chiefs (5-1) – The Chiefs stomped another opponent defeating Wautoma 53-0 to stay pace with Berlin atop the South Central Conference.
- Nekoosa Papermakers (5-1) – Nekoosa downed Waupun and now needs to win just one of their final 3 games to lock up a playoff berth.
- Hillsboro Tigers — (5-1) Hillsboro clobbered an injury riddled New Lisbon team 53-0 last Friday. Hillsboro can claim a playoff berth this Friday with a victory over winless Brookwood.
- Bangor Cardinals — (4-2) Bangor survived a furious Royall 2nd half rally to win their 4th game of the year going into their rivalry matchup with Cashton this Friday.
- Cashton Eagles ^1 (4-2) Cashton doubled up a winless Brookwood 28-14 last Friday. Can Cashton get their biggest win of the season over Bangor on Friday? We shall see.
- Royall Panther -1 (3-3) Royall lost another heartbreaker this time to Bangor after tying the game up at 14 in the 4th Royall will have its biggest test to date against Ithaca on their homecoming game this Friday.
- Waupun Warriors — (4-2) Waupun fell to Nekoosa on Friday but still controls its own destiny to claim a post season berth.
- Mauston Golden Eagles NR (2-4) Mauston is back into the rankings after taking down Adams-Friendship 38-26 last Friday. Mauston must find a way to win 2 of their remaining 3 games to keep their post season streak alive.

Gieringer, Mark John Age 73 of Coloma
Mark John Gieringer, age 73, of Coloma, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 9th, 1951. Mark was the second of four children born to Judge Raymond E. and Marion L. (Severson) Gieringer.
Mark graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1969. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where he graduated in 1974 from the School of Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Mark went on to continue his education at Marquette University where he attended law school and earned his law degree in 1977. Mark was an assistant district attorney for Winnebago County before practicing law in Neenah. He then moved back to his hometown of Adams-Friendship where he established his own law practice in Friendship. In addition to practicing law, Mark also obtained his real estate license. He was the President of Marion Realty LTD and a partner in Bula-Gieringer Farms and 3M Investments.
He enjoyed hosting Thanksgivings, skiing with family, and being the Captain of his beautiful 1969 Chris Craft, “Chips Ahoy”. It was important for Mark to continue annual traditions with his close brotherhood of friends – the annual deer hunting event on Spring Bluff, the Super Bowl poker party at the family Boathouse, and the EAA boating and fishing trips – each a legacy lasting decades. Mark’s greatest blessings in life, however, were his two children: Heather M. Kurtz and Jonathan G. Gieringer, and his grandson, Declan Otto Kurtz. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong faith, work ethic, and passion for helping others.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. and Marion L. Gieringer and his brother-in-law, Michael L. Edwards.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather M. (Richard) Kurtz, son, Jonathan G. (Trudy) Gieringer, grandson, Declan O. Kurtz, along with his three sisters, Jill R. Edwards, Susan R. Bradford and Kris G.(Randal) Coakley and his nieces, nephews, grand nephew, and grand nieces.
Memorial Services will be held at Roseberry’s Funeral Home on Saturday, October 12 at 12 Noon for family and friends, followed by a gathering at MoundView Golf Course located in Friendship, Wisconsin. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 12th from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Honorary pallbearers include: Alan Bradford, Tim Cook, Jeffrey Edwards, Mike Leaman, Kenny Meier, and Timmy Soward.

Royall/Wonewoc competed at the Reedsburg Cross Country meet on September 28. Katie Field (10th grade) took first place and Ella Dahlen (9th grade) took 3rd.
For the boys Vlad Grigorev took 16th place. The boys had enough runners to compete as a team for the first time all year an took 7th out of 8 complete teams.

Linn, Dorothy R. Age 77 of Mauston
Dorothy R Linn, age 77 of Mauston WI, passed away on Sunday September 22, 2024 at the Cottage Care Center Nursing Home in Mauston. She was born on October 2, 1946 in Rockford IL to Raymond and Jean (Greisen) Breese.
Dorothy worked at Sundstrand Aviation in Rockford IL for several years before retiring and moving to Wisconsin. She worked at Rockwell Automation in Richland Center WI, retiring from there after several years. She owned a small farm in Elroy where she raised beef cattle and her pet goats.
Survived by siblings: LeRoy (Greta) Breese of Juda WI, Ray (Ginny) Breese of Machesney Park IL, John (Sandra) Breese of Huntingdon TN, Kathy Breese of Machesney Park, IL, Connie Garland of Coahoma TX, Don (Sonya) Breese of Roscoe IL, Linda (Gary) Cavin of Machesney Park, IL, and Norma (John) Hess of Rhinelander WI. As well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Raymond/Jean and a sister Carolyn Sue Bratcher.
Visitation will be held at Crandall Funeral Home in Mauston on Friday October 4 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services at 11 a.m. Burial at the Woodstock Cemetery in Richland County. At this time no luncheon is planned.

Thomas James Troemner, age 49, of Friendship, Wisconsin passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Lakeview at Mill Pond Assisted Living in Westfield, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Friendship, Wisconsin. Elder Mark Jefferson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Interment will be at the Quincy Cemetery, Town of Quincy, Adams County, Wisconsin.
