McClelland, Zella S. Age 71 of Friendship

Zella S. McClelland, age 71, of Friendship, formerly of Baraboo, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship.

Per Zella’s wishes, no services will be held.

Zella was born on April 7, 1954, in Canton, Ohio, to Floyd and Susie (Brantley) Minor. She was united in marriage to Charles McClelland on October 28, 1972, in Waco, Ohio.

Zella found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed thrifting and knitting, and in her younger years, she spent time sewing, playing softball, and bowling. She loved playing poker with friends and family. Above all, she cherished her family, who meant everything to her.
She was employed for ten years at the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, a position she truly loved, before dedicating herself fully to her home and family.

Zella was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Susie.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles; her children, Kimberly (Dan) Cole, Bradley McClelland, and Melanie Videc; her grandchildren, Teja (James), Andrew, and Courtney (Kyle); her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Baby Everett; and her siblings, Frances (Leon), Wilma, and Wayne (Darlene). She is further survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Bakovka, Lula M. Age 98 of Friendship

Lula M. Bakovka, age 98, of Friendship, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Big Flats, Wisconsin, with Pastor Peggy Werner officiating. Interment will follow at Niebull Cemetery in the Town of Big Flats, Adams County, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Lula was born on August 11, 1927, in Friendship, Wisconsin, to John and Ethel (Jones) Buck.

She was united in marriage to John Joseph Bakovka on October 27, 1950, in Friendship. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage filled with partnership and devotion.

Lula found joy in sewing and embroidery, tending to her beautiful peony garden, and working alongside John—he in the garden and she in the kitchen, preserving the harvest through canning. These simple, shared routines were the threads that wove a life rich in care and tradition.

She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Big Flats.

Lula was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, on June 10, 2019.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Renee Cashman of Ely, Minnesota; her son, Gregory John (Tammy) Bakovka of Valparaiso, Nebraska; and her grandson, John Gregory Bakovka. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dombroski, Rachel S. Age 76 of Lyndon Station

Rachel S. (Marusin) Dombroski, age 76, Lyndon Station, WI, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. with a Committal Service to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with Father Cryton offering prayers at the gravesite.

Rachel was born December 12, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Michael and Sophie (Gajduk) Marusin. She married Ronald Dombroski, Sr. in Chicago, IL, on November 16, 1968.

Rachel worked multiple simultaneous jobs most of her life, including at K-Mart/Sears for 40+ years and as the utility clerk for the Village of Lyndon Station for 26 years. She loved traveling the world, enjoying the best food, schmaltzy (her words) Hallmark movies, and most of all, taking care of other people, particularly by cooking for them.

Rachel is survived by her sons, Ronald Jr. of Nomadland, OR, James (Becky) of Chicago, IL, Jason (Miaya) of Talent, OR, and Matthew (Erin) of Appleton, WI; brother, Robert (the late Barbara) Marusin of Monee, IL; brother-in-law, David (the late Pam) Dombroski of Tinley Park, IL; her grandchildren (Madelyn; Autumn, Grace, Ennio, Steven, and Sophie; Maverick; and Liam); her beloved cat Maggie; and many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald, and two cherished cats named Mittens.

New Lisbon Rockets Compete at Cashton Invitational

The New Lisbon Track & Field team opened their indoor season at the Cashton Invitational at UW-La Crosse, turning in several strong top 10 performances against tough competition. There were 25 teams competing and the men’s team finished 8th and the women’s team finished 16th.

On the girl’s side, Haley Mathes led the way with a 6th place finish in the shot put, while Brooklyn Lowe took 8th in the high jump. The girls 4×800 relay team of Heidi Mathes, Greenlee Heimer, Jossalin Clark and Jordan Barker also added a solid 6th place finish.

For the boys, Dawson Stickney placed 4th in the 400m dash, and Jamesen Pfaff sprinted to 5th in the 55m dash. In the field events, Jamesen Pfaff placed 3rd in long jump, Jude Keltner (5th) and Gavin Gesler (9th) placed in the triple jump, while Colby Pfaff cleared 5-8 for 7th in the high jump. Josh Homan added a 10th place finish in the long jump.

The boys relay teams also contributed with top 10 finishes in the

4×200 (5th) Jamesen Pfaff, Josh Homan, Jude Keltner, Clayton Jensen

4×400 (9th) Jude Keltner, Colby Pfaff, Josh Homan, Gavin Gesler

4×800 (9th) Blayne Schneider, Kale Stubbs, Logan Miller, Austin Bradley

Madden, Anna M. Age 91 of Lyndon Station

Anna M. Madden, 91 of Lyndon Station passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026 at her home with a battle from cancer with her family at her side.

Anna was born on July 1, 1934 the daughter of Marion and Harriett (Murphy) Austin.

Anna was a registered nurse in the Peace Corp.   She enjoyed the family farm, gardening, knitting, and bowling and loved playing the piano.  She loved volunteering at Hess Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop, the Food Pantry, reading books, going for rides, shopping, seeing and enjoying her family and her cat PJ.

Anna is survived by her sons Timothy J Madden of Mauston, Daniel (Erica) Madden of Baraboo, grandchildren Nicolas, Marisa. Casey, great granddaughter Bailey a niece and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hugh A. Madden,  sisters Maxine A. Austin, Margaret E. Ilbeck, her brother John Austin, nephew John Austin and grandson Cody J. Madden.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Mauston where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Duckworth, Michael A. Age 63 of Hancock

Michael A. Duckworth, age 63, of Hancock, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

 

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the funeral home.

 

Michael was born on November 2, 1962, in Rockford, Illinois, to Stewart and Patricia (Chamberlain) Duckworth. He graduated from high school in Rockford.

 

Michael was a skilled machinist and proudly owned and operated his own business. In his free time, he enjoyed relaxing and playing video games.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his uncle, Carl (Joan) Duckworth; and his aunt, Viola (Richard) Gruber.

 

He is survived by his parents, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Johnson, Gerald, R. “Rick” Age 74 of Adams

Gerald R. “Rick” Johnson, age 74, of Adams, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Funeral services will follow, with Father David Bruener officiating. Interment will take place at Gould Rock Cemetery in Grand Marsh (Town of New Chester), Wisconsin, a luncheon will be held immediately following interment at the VFW in Adams, Wisconsin.

Rick was born on August 16, 1951, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Gerald and Beverly (Alderman) Johnson. He attended Adams-Friendship Area Schools and spent his entire adult life as a truck driver, a profession he truly enjoyed. Most recently, he took great pride in driving for Alsum Farms. He took pride in his work and the many miles he traveled over the years, something he never wanted to give up!!

Rick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Flora J. “Birdie” Rykiel on September 30, 1972, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Brooks, Wisconsin. Together, they made their home in Adams, where they raised their three daughters and watched their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

Rick found joy in the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, collecting clocks and old coins, and searching for treasures at garage and estate sales. He also enjoyed riding his Harley, admiring his Chevelle, John Deere Tractor, and participating in the A-F Motors Car Cruises
Whenever you were looking for him you could always find him tinkering in his garages. Known for his generous spirit, Rick was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. You may have seen him riding a lawn mower or snowblower down his street to help out a neighbor or friend. Rick was blessed with the gift to gab, a quick wit, and pulling pranks on family and friends.

A man of nine lives, Rick battled illness after illness with unmatched resilience. Every challenge he faced was met with courage, determination, and an unbreakable fighting spirit. Though his body finally rested, the strength, grit, and bravery he displayed throughout his life will never be forgotten. He was and always will be a true fighter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald; his mother, Beverly (Lyle); brothers, Sluce, Bertrum, Renny, and Ozzy; sisters, Rita Foth and Roxy Stropes, his in-laws, Joe and Donna; and brother-in-law, Ron York.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Birdie, daughters, Brandy (Westley) Olson, Bobbie (Phil) Hams, and Jerri Johnson; grandchildren, Dylan, Donna (David), Brock (Reba), Emily, and Erin; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Coleson, Emerson, Clayton, Clyde, Ivy, and Gunnar; siblings, Roma York, Harley (Debbie), Oakie, Artie, and Rena Lumby, brothers-in-laws, Mike (Cindy) Rykiel, and Loren Stropes husband of the late Roxy Stropes, Rose Knapp partner of the late Sluce Lumby; and his loyal canine companions, Duke, Snoop Dog, and his cat Swiper.

He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Also, survived by lifelong friend of 51 years and considered his adopted brother, Pete (Mary) Juve. Rick had a deep love for his family and friends. He will always be remembered as a
hardworking man who gave his all to the people he cared about most. Rick leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him deeply.

Mile Bluff to host Community Forum

Mile Bluff Medical Center is inviting the community join Dara Bartels, Mile Bluff President and CEO, for a community presentation on Tuesday, April 21 from 5-7 pm.  During this meet-and-greet event that will be held at the medical center in Mauston, Dara will share insights into the unique world of not-for-profit healthcare, provide an organizational update, and unveil the updated plans for Mile Bluff’s Emergency Department remodeling project.

 

Doors will open at 5:00 pm with the presentation beginning at 5:15 pm.  The evening will conclude with time to answer questions from the audience.
