Former Dells Man Arrested in South Carolina for Child Sexual Assault

In late 2024, Wisconsin Dells Law Enforcement began an investigation into a child sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2012. As a result of the investigation, on June 4th, 2025, charges of 1st Degree Sexual of a Child were filed against Jeremy Allen Schertz (52yo, formerly of the Wisconsin Dells area).

On June 25th, 2025, a nationwide warrant was issued for Schertz’s arrest. Schertz was located and taken into custody by the Horry County Police Department (South Carolina) on August 12th, 2025. Jeremy has been extradited to Wisconsin to face the charges.

We would like to thank the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Horry County Police Department for their diligence in locating and taking into custody the suspect.

The charges are merely an accusation of criminal conduct where probable cause existed for an arrest. The individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

2025 HS Football Previews – Royall Panthers

Royall Panthers

2024 Record: 5-5 (4-3 Scenic Bluffs Conference)

Head Coach: Josh Board (2nd Year 5-5 Record)

Mike’s 2025 Projected Record 5-4 (4-3 Scenic Bluffs Conference)

Players to Watch: RB/LB Jett Bender RB/LB Jason Johnson QB/DB Braxton Board OL/DL Kolten Morrisette OL/DE Lucas Peterson OL/DL Trenton Frye OL/LB Dylan Velazquez

Team Preview: Jackson Bender will be tough to replace for the Royall Panthers but they return his younger brother Jett Bender (83-372 5tds) from last year and hope he can fill his brothers’ shoes. Jason Johnson (44-221 1td) is also back in the Royall backfield.  Braxton Board (1-1-0-3 0tds) will take over the reins at quarterback. Board is a strong athlete.  Royall has one of the strongest offensive lines they’ve had in a while although they need to replace offensive linemen of the year Karter Olson. Kolten Morrisette, Lucas Peterson, and Dylan Velazquez all return to the offensive line.  Defensively Jett Bender, and Lucas Peterson will attempt to lead the defense. Royall had an undefeated middle school team last year and the freshman class could make an instant impact including WR Bently Rozek who is about at 6-3 frosh.  Royall’s biggest strength might be its coaching.  Josh Board is the head coach but welcomes plenty of experience to his staff that boasts former football head coaches Kole Huth and Roland Lehman who comes over from Mauston.  Royall should be in the mix this year in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. It will depend on how they replace Jackson Bender, Carter Uppena, and Karter Olson.

Key to Success: Being tough.  Royall has some ability and some big strong looking kids but they have to play tough to open up holes for the running game. Royall will also need some young kids to mature fast.

Game to watch:  Week 5 Friday September 19th home vs Hillsboro

This game was a classic last year as Royall blew a late lead on Hillsboro’s homecoming night.  Royall might need to win this game to have a shot at the conference championship and to make a playoff spot.

Incidental Take Notice For Sauk County

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) proposes to issue a permit for the incidental taking of a rare lizard and terrestrial, which may result from the Winnebago Heights Development in Sauk County.

Incidental take refers to the unintentional loss of individual endangered or threatened animals or plants that does not put the species’ overall population at risk.

The Ho-Chunk Nation proposes to develop multiple parcels for home construction.  Temporary work areas will be established within the parcels or along roadways. Current land cover is generally unmanaged herbaceous vegetation.

The presence of the state endangered slender glass lizard is confirmed in the vicinity of the project site. DNR staff determined that the proposed project may result in the incidental taking of some lizards.

The DNR concludes that the proposed project is not likely to appreciably reduce the likelihood of the survival or recovery of the species within the state, the whole plant-animal community of which it is a part of or the habitat that is critical to its existence.

Conservation measures to minimize the adverse effect on the endangered species will be incorporated into the proposed Incidental Take Permit. Copies of the jeopardy assessment and background information on the slender glass lizard are available by visiting the DNR Incidental Take Public Notices webpage or upon request from DNR Conservation Biologist Rori Paloski at Rori.Paloski@wisconsin.gov or 608-516-3742.

The public is encouraged to submit written comments regarding project-related impacts to the slender glass lizard by Sept. 2, 2025 to:

Van Orden Challenger Rebecca Cooke Endorsed By End Citizens United

This week, End Citizens United (ECU), a leading anti-corruption organization, endorsed Rebecca Cooke for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District.

“Washington has abandoned the working families and family farms I grew up on and continues to prioritize the rich and powerful with tax breaks and special favors,” Rebecca Cooke said. “My campaign doesn’t take corporate PAC money because I can’t be bought by the special interests. We need a new generation of leadership to stop the corruption and make government accountable to the people it’s supposed to serve. I’m honored to be endorsed by End Citizens United and look forward to putting the people of Western Wisconsin first.”

“As a small business owner and someone who was raised on a dairy farm, Rebecca Cooke understands the challenges working families in Wisconsin face,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “She knows Washington has turned its back on working families, and she’ll fight to end the corruption that puts corporations and special interests ahead of everyday people. We’re proud to endorse Rebecca, and we look forward to helping her win.”

For 10 Years, End Citizens United (ECU) has been dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money in politics and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, ECU has had over 1.4 million donors with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than four million members nationwide and is one of the nation’s leading anti-corruption organizations.

Rebecca is endorsed by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, 15 Members of Congress, State Senator Brad Pfaff, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Councils 7 & 82, the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation (SMART) Unions, UFCW Local 1437, the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Dem Action Fund, Elect Democratic Women, EMILY’s List and the National Coalition to Protect Social Security and Medicare PAC. She’s also garnered the support of a broad coalition of farmers, small business owners, educators and healthcare workers across western Wisconsin. View the full list of endorsers here

2025 HS Football Previews – Necedah Cardinals

Necedah Cardinals

2024 Record: 0-9 (0-7 Scenic Bluffs Conference)

Head Coach: Sebastian Smith (1st Year 0-0 Record)

Mike’s 2025 Projected Record 0-9 (0-7 Scenic Bluffs Conference)

Players to Watch: Phillip Heintz Eli Horak Brady Cross Jaren Hansen Nevada Faulkner

Team Preview: The Necedah Cardinals have not won a game since 2021 and are trying to change that under first year head coach Sebastian Smith. Jaren Hansen is a big strong kid who can drag defenders for a couple yards in the running game.  Phillip Heintz, Brad Cross, and Eli Horak are some strong athletes that should help Necedah. I think Necedah will continue to struggle this season but hopefully things are brighter on the horizon.

Key to Success: Growing the youth program.  I will always say the key to having a successful High School program is to have a strong youth program.  I think coach Smith needs to really help at the youth level and get young kids excited to play Necedah Cardinals Football.

Game to watch:  Week 7 Friday October 3rd New Lisbon (Home)

This should be a good game and Necedah’s best chance to win a game possibly.
