Jackaline Jane (Preuss) Johnson/Schumann, age 86, passed away peacefully at Spring Brook in Onalaska on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
She was born on May 27, 1938 in Elroy to Arthur and Fannie (Searles) Preuss.
Jackie married John Johnson on April 6, 1957. John preceded her in death on July 2, 1976. She later married Kenneth Schumann on May 23, 1980 and Kenny preceded her in death on June 6, 2011.
Jackie worked on the family farm growing up, then she went to work for the Elroy School in the office. After she married, she was a housewife until John’s death, then she worked for Jensen’s Market in Elroy, Hike n’ Bike, farmed again, and at Heritage Manor.
She volunteered at the Elroy Legion Hall cooking. Both Jackie and Kenny volunteered for God’s Feeding People and the Elroy Fair, later Jackie drove for meals on wheels.
She is a member of the Elroy United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with family and friends, planting flowers and cooking. She was a good cook.
Survivors include her children, Jeff (Sue), Jim (LaLani), Judy (Dennis), June (Wyatt); stepchildren, Kerry (Shelly), Chris (Paul), Carla (David); grandchildren, Troy, Tricia (Dennis), Nickie (Ryan), Mandi, John (Kim), Jacob, Allie (Martin), Jewel; step grandchildren, Jessica (Claudio), Zach, Justin, Brandon (Monica), Ethan, Cassie, Kyle (Mia), Kira and 16 Great Grandchildren.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sister, Doreen; son, Jerry; stepson, Kevin; stepdaughter, Colleen and friend, Mary Skinner.
She was assisted during the end by Gundersen Hospice and the Staff at Spring Brook Onalaska.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Elroy, with Pastor Jill Nowlen officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Elroy and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church.

If you are looking for answers and tips on how to live your life to the fullest while managing diabetes, plan to attend this FREE event. Passport to Healthier Living with Diabetes will explain the importance of managing diabetes through diet, medication, glucose monitoring, and stress management.
The Diabetes Education team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and give you tips on how to better manage your diabetes. They will address any questions and concerns that you may not think to ask when you visit your healthcare provider.
This event will be held on Thursday, August 1 at 1 pm at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston.

Interstate Accident Near Mauston

The Wisconsin State Patrol is currently investigating a crash on I-90/94 near
mile marker 68 eastbound involving one vehicle.
All eastbound lanes are closed at this time at exit 61/Highway 80 in New Lisbon.
One person was fatally injured as a result of the crash. The names of the occupants in the vehicle
will not be released at this time.
The Wisconsin State Patrol will be conducting the reconstruction and crash
investigation
Burdick, Susan Age 53 of Easton

Susan (Margach) Burdick – age 53, slipped into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 13, 2024 in the Burdick home she loved with her family.
Suzie was an exceptional woman. Her smile, words of encouragement, Scottish accent and Christian faith were her trade mark.
Susan was born on Easter Sunday, April 11, 1971 to Marion and Peter Margach in Glasgow, Scotland. She married Jim Coyle in 1992, a Scottish-American. They moved to the United States. Jim died in 1998 after a 9 month fight with Cancer in Tucson, AZ. Susan married Stuart Burdick on March 31, 2001. Tuscon was their primary home base, but Stuart’s work took them to different assignments with the Air Force, including Japan and Arkansas. Upon Stuart’s retirement in 2013, they moved back to the Burdick farmstead in Easton, Wisconsin.
Susan worked for the Moundview-Gunderson Hospital in Friendship from 2013 – 2023. Her cancer diagnosis/treatments dictated her early departure from a job she enjoyed.
Susan loved her family and friends and felt blessed by them all. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marion Downie; mothers-in-law: Marilyn Burdick and LaVerne Burdick; Step-father, Ian Beattie; and step-brother, Ian Beattie.
She is survived by her loving husband Stuart Burdick; father, Peter Margach; step-father, Edwin Burdick; step-siblings: Mhairi Beattie & Fraser Beattie; sisters-in-law: Nancy (David) Seelenbinder & Anita (Donald) Genrich; Children: Melissa Mitchell (AZ) and Jeremy (Amanda) Burdick (TX); 6 granddaughters; 3 great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts/uncles.
A special thank you to all the medical staff who helped Suzie in this past year and the Hospice care workers in the last two months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship on Friday – July 26, 2024. Visitation will start at 11:00am. The service, officiated by Pastor Sam Downey, will start at 2pm.
Susan always said, “At my celebration of life I would like the women to dress in red and wear fancy hats!” ????.

A Mass of Christian Burial for William “Bill” Roberts Sr., age 79, of Mauston, Wisconsin, will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mauston with Fr. Jey Yobu celebrating. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. Bill will be laid to rest following mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Mauston.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Elsie; two sons William (Tracy) Roberts Jr. and Jeffrey (Alison) Roberts, and a daughter Loretta (Daniel) Roberts. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rachel Kopplin, Ryan Roberts, Brandon Ray, Dylan Ray, Jordan Roberts and Olivia Roberts, along with 2 great-grandchildren, brother Ernest Roberts, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The City of Elroy, Village of Union Center, Highway 71 between Kendall and Elroy, and now Wonewoc, has seen significant flooding over this past weekend and currently due to significant rainfall. Local creeks feeding in and around the Baraboo River have breached their banks. Several roads and bridges were and may still be covered with water. Be cautious, and never cross a flooded road in your vehicle. Below are some flooding resources for local residents.

When your well has been flooded, bacteria and other harmful organisms can get into your water
You should consider your well flooded if:
The well head was covered or well casing was inundated with water.
You notice changes in the taste or color or the presence of sediment in your water.
Your well is shallow-cased nearby areas have been flooded.
It will take time for the water to be safe to use again. You will need an unaffected source of water to use for several weeks while you fix your well. Safe water includes bottled water, tap water that you boiled for one minute, or water from a well that was not flooded.
Lifesaving Award Issued in Juneau County

Monday afternoon, Sheriff Zobal and Undersheriff Board presented lifesaving awards to Deputy Mitchell Schlichting, Deputy Amber Kuhl and Dispatcher Megan Covelli.
Dispatcher Covelli received her lifesaving award for her actions on a cardiac arrest 911 call she received on October 9, 2023. This is her second lifesaving award.
Deputy Kuhl and Deputy Schlichting received their lifesaving award for action taken with an unresponsive adult on May 31, 2024.
Dispatcher Covelli, Deputy Kuhl, and Deputy Schlichting, thank you for doing all that you do to keep our communities safe!
Tomah/SBC Legion Baseball Wins in Cazenovia

The Tomah American Legion baseball team took down Cazenovia 12-4 Sunday afternoon in a nine inning game. Tomah used 3 pitchers to pick up the victory. TJ Shramek started the game giving up nothing on 2 infield hits 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. Jackson Steffel came in and pitched 3 perfect innings striking out 5 to earn the win on the mound and Tucker Frandsen finished the game for the Tomah Senior Legion team. Tucker Frandsen went 4×6 with 2 RBI’s while Brett Fleitner went 3×5 with 2RBI’s. Gunnar Wopat, TJ Shramek, and Kole Trap all had 2 hits apiece for the Tomah Legion team. Isaac Jennings and Trevor Westfphal each had 3 hits for Cazenovia. Tomah picked up their 3rd win of the week to improve to 4-9 on their season. Tomah fell 5-4 to Whitehall on Friday night.
Royall Splits 2 Games in Woodside Baseball League

The Royall summer baseball team split a pair of hard fought games Tuesday night out at the Summer Woodside League. Royall dropped the first game 4-2 to Ithaca. Trey Wildes went 1×4 with an RBI triple and Tyrus Wildes went 1×2 with an RBI. Sammy Clary picked up the complete game victory for Ithaca. Cody Byrnes had a 2 run double in the third to help propel Ithaca. Royall bounced back winning vs Wisconsin Dells Legion Post 187 2-1. Cole Eberhardt picked up the complete game victory for Royall giving up just one run on 4 hits walking 2 and striking out 4. Eberhardt also went 2×2 with and RBI at the plate. Tyrus Wildes went 1×2 with a triple and Colby Schroeder had the winning RBI for Royall. Royall is now 2-3 on their Woodside League schedule. Wisconsin Dells got an inside the park homerun from Curtis Griefenhagen for their lone run.

The Tomah/Scenic Bluffs American Legion Baseball 19U team defeated Gays Mills in a pitchers duel 1-0 Monday night. 4 Tomah pitchers combined to 3 hit Gays Mills. Royall’s Gunnar Wopat got the start and pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings striking out 6. Owen Laudon pitched the next 3 innings and gave up just 2 hits while striking out 4. Landon Ewing and Tucker Frandsen pitched the final 1 1/3 innings giving up nothing on a hit while combining to strike out 3 batters. Ewing earned the hold while Frandsen picked up the save. Tomah’s lone run came on a passed ball that allowed Wopat to score in the 5th inning. Kole Trap went 2×3 with a double for Tomah at the plate. Jack Payne took the tough luck loss for Gays Mills pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up just 1 unearned run on 3hits.
