Hillsboro Man Injured in Truck Accident
Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Friday afternoon, November 7th, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM, the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified of a single-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of State Highway 82 and County Road, in the Town of Forest.
Stephen J. Hynek, age 63, of Hillsboro, WI was operating a 1972 Ford truck travelling southeast on County Road P. The truck was loaded with shelled corn, and the operator reported a mechanical issue with the brakes as he approached the intersection of Highway 82. The vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and came to rest crossways of both Highway 82 travel lanes.
Injured, Hynek was flown from the scene by GundersenAIR to Gundersen (Emplify) Health System in La Crosse, WI.
Due to cleanup of the load spillage, Highway 82 was closed until 4:40 PM.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Hillsboro Police Department, Hillsboro Fire Department, Hillsboro Area Ambulance, GundersenAIR, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. Vernon County Emergency Management assisted with community notifications of the highway closure.
Sheriff Torgerson would like to commend an alert motorist, a 50-year-old female from Hillsboro, who was traveling east on State Highway. She saw what was unfolding and stopped west of the intersection. Another motorist, a 45-year-old male from rural Hillsboro was turning right onto Highway 82, from County Road P and saw the truck quickly approaching from the rear as he made the turn. This should serve as a reminder to always stay alert when operating a motor vehicle and avoid distractions. As always, Sheriff Torgerson would like to thank all our volunteers who faithfully and selflessly serve our communities. A special thanks to everyone who assisted with cleanup.
The crash remains under investigation.
Raspiller, Linda Lou
My name is Linda Lou Raspiller. I was born in Reddick, IL on July 24, 1945. Linda passed peacefully Nov 9 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. In 1963 I married the love of my life, Stanley Raspiller. We moved to Wisconsin in 1963, where we raised our four kids on a dairy farm. Those were the best years of my life.
Some of my favorite things were gardening, cooking and baking, and playing cards and board games with my family. There were many challenges in the early years, raising young children, working outside jobs and farming full-time. My various employments included waitressing, nursing aid and store clerk, but my passion was farming and being a mother.
At 35, I developed Parkinsons’ Disease which proved to be a lifelong struggle; however, we continued to farm till I was 55. Then in 2000 we sold the farm and moved to Lime Ridge. I was employed at Sauk County Health Center where I worked till 70 years of age. In 2015 I retired and underwent a revolutionary brain surgery for Parkinson’s, which was a huge success. The following year we moved to Reedsburg to be closer to family. Stan and I had four good years there before he passed at age 84. I continued to live in my own home until 2023, when I then moved to assisted living.
Thanks to my devoted children, some of the highlights of my later life were the times spent travelling through the Western states, visiting many National Parks, a trip to Vermont to see the beautiful fall colors, and a European vacation to Switzerland and Italy (Germany too!) which was a lifelong dream of mine.
In September of 2025, I received a shocking diagnosis of a rare type of blood cancer Plasma Cell Leukemia. It was a relief to hear that this was going to be relatively quick and painless. As unexpected and unsettling as the news was, I am at peace. I feel I have accomplished all I had set out to do in my life.
I am survived by my four beautiful children: Ted (Kris, Jessica, Dalton) Renee (Lamia, Hana) Tony (Kim, Courtney, Brandon) and Amy (Rod)
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a future date.
The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family.
Robbins, Pamela Velnet Age 62 of Grand Marsh
Pamela Velnet Robbins, age 62, of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at her home.
Pamela was born on May 7, 1963, in Racine, Wisconsin to Richard and Ruth (Harcus) Ostrander Sr. She attended Park High School.
At the age of 15 in 1978 she met the love of her life Lonnie Robbins of Racine, WI. They dated for 5 years and were wed on May 14, 1983. Pamela and Lonnie went on to have two sons, Lonnie Jr., born on December 31, 1983, and William born on January 25, 1986. In September of 1995, Pamela and her family moved to Grand Marsh, WI where she lived until her final day. Lonnie and William blessed Pamela with two grandchildren each. Mckenna Robbins born on February 23, 2009, Jayla Robbins born on May 4, 2009, Zakkary Robbins born on November 29, 2009, and Wade Robbins born on August 5, 2013.
Pamela’s world was all based on the love of her family. She was a devout wife, mother, and grandmother. Her husband, kids, and grandkids meant the world to her. Pamela also loved to take vacations to the ocean and collect seashells, but her real joy was fishing. She loved nothing more than to set her hook into a bluegill or a large mouth bass.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ruth Ostrander Sr., mother-in-law Beatrice Milford, father-in-law, William Daniel Robbins, and stepfather-in-law, Warren Milford.
Survivors include her soulmate and husband, sons, grandchildren, and daughter-in-law. She is also survived by many siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Per Pamela’s wishes, she didn’t want a funeral service. She will be cremated, and a memorial will be held at a future date and place.

Mauston Announced Baldwin & Woodhouse to Coach Golden Eagle Softball
The Mauston Athletics Department is thrilled to announce the hiring of Jennifer Baldwin and Payton Woodhouse as Co-Head Coaches of the Mauston High School Varsity Softball program for the 2025–26 school year and beyond.
Coach Jennifer Baldwin shared her excitement about stepping into this new role:
“I’m so excited to be stepping into the role of Softball Co-Head Coach! I played softball in high school and spent years as the ‘sports mom’ and team manager for my son’s teams. Now that he’s a sophomore at Winona State, I’m thrilled to bring that same energy back to the field!
By day, I’m the HR/Payroll Coordinator for the Mauston School District, and I’m excited to add another role within the district. My husband Nick and I have been married for 23 years, and he’ll be joining in on the fun as the best team bus driver around!
We’re both proud Golden Eagles and can’t wait for a great season ahead!”
Coach Payton Woodhouse also expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to help lead the program:
“My name is Payton Woodhouse, and I grew up in Portage, WI. I started playing travel softball at a young age and continued through high school, where my love for the game only grew stronger.
For the past two years, I’ve coached for a travel softball program out of Madison at the 14U and 16U levels, and I’m excited to bring that experience to Mauston. I’m currently a 5th Grade Teacher at Grayside Elementary School and am looking forward to an exciting season as Softball Co-Head Coach.
I can’t wait to continue sharing my passion for the game with our players.”
