St. Joe’s to Celebrate 5-Year Anniversary in New Facility with Free Community Lunch and Open Archives

St. Joe’s is marking five years in its new facility with a community celebration that offers a taste of the past and a look at its rich history.

On Tuesday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., St. Joe’s will serve a free 1950s-inspired lunch featuring a classic burger, fries, and malt ice cream. The retro menu honors 1951, the year the original St. Joe’s hospital was built, and will be served in the hospital café.

To celebrate its long-standing presence in the community, St. Joe’s will open its archives Monday, June 16, through Thursday, June 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Hillsboro Hospital Community Room 1. Visitors can explore photo albums, articles, and memorabilia that tell the story of more than 100 years of care by the side of Field Veterans Memorial Lake.

Since moving into the new facility in June 2020—right in the middle of a global pandemic—St. Joe’s has grown significantly. The hospital has added services including oncology, dermatology, audiology, chiropractic, palliative care, urology, and vascular care. It also introduced robotic technology for general and knee surgeries. In addition, St. Joe’s opened a new, 100% energy-independent clinic in Elroy, earned top scores for quality and patient experience across multiple years, and was recognized last year for providing the second highest rate of free and uncompensated care in Wisconsin.

Peterson, Raymond Walter Age 63 of Adams

Raymond Walter Peterson, 63, of Adams, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025 in the comfort of his home.

Born January 27, 1962 to Elizabeth and Richard Peterson I, Ray was a dedicated tool and die machinist whose strong work ethic and skilled hands left a lasting mark. Ray’s true pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Leana Peterson; his children, Kaylee Peterson (Kevin), Richard Peterson III (Amber), Beverly Johnson (Jacob), and Rosalind Peterson; and his cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie “Jack” Peterson and Everett Radant. He also leaves behind his sister Cynthia Peterson and his brother Richard Peterson II.

Ray had a deep love for the simple joys in life—cruising on his motorcycle, turning up the music, and spending time with his loyal dogs, Griffin and Clyde. He had a legendary sweet tooth and an unshakable love for bacon—if there was dessert on the table or the smell of bacon in the air, Ray wasn’t far behind. His sense of humor, big heart, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ray by spending time with those you love. Share a story, take a ride, turn up your favorite song—make the memories that truly matter.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Sharon Marie Mattox, a cherished mother, grandmother & great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by her loving family at House of the Dove Hospice Center in Marshfield, WI. She was born on February 7, 1946, in Mauston, WI, to Melvin & Lorraine Cook. Sharon married Richard C. She was very honored and thankful to be a part of the process of establishing a congregation in Adams-Friendship; from the humble beginnings at the community center, to the days at the “Purple Palace”, to the joyous move to the new church building in 2020. Sharon faithfully attended weekly services and thoroughly enjoyed worshipping God and fellowshipping with other believers.

Sharon was known for her ability to create beautiful floral arrangements, amazing birthday cakes when her children were little, and even an occasional wedding cake in her younger years. She took pride and enjoyed watching her children grow and start families of their own. Sharon could instantly make you feel at home and always hosted the family’s Sunday dinners, Packer or Badger game days, and holiday celebrations. Her home was filled with laughter & love, plenty of food, and the occasional late-night poker or dominoes game with family and friends. Sharon had an unwavering dedication to her family, rarely missing an extra-curricular school game, choral concert or band performance of her children and grandchildren who lived in town (Chris, Victoria,

Mikayla & Chase); and traveling to many ballet performances for her granddaughter Danielle. She found great joy in several hobbies; she loved traveling with her husband Bill and family to Yellowstone, the Black Hills, and Washington, DC, spending time with friends in the Northwoods seeing the beautiful fall tree colors and choosing the perfect Christmas or birthday gifts for those she loved.
