Three area wrestlers were crowned state champion over the weekend at the individual state wrestling tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison; Justin Dolata of Mauston, Cullen Pedersen of New Lisbon, and Jordan Reisinger of Tomah. Also receiving medals were Dalton Lunde of Royall and Bryce Bennot of Wautoma who placed second, Myles Connor of New Lisbon, Trenton McManus of Adams-Friendship, and Clay Lieber of Nekoosa all finished third, and placing fifth for Baraboo was Trevor Hanson. Congratulations to all area wrestlers that participated at the state tournament.

The third time was the charm for Hillsboro and Sauk Prairie over the weekend in boys’ basketball regional final tournament action.

In division five, the Hillsboro Tigers knocked off top-seeded Bangor 50-48, after being swept in conference play by the Cardinals during the regular season. The Tigers were led in scoring by Brandon Stanek who finished with a game-high 17 points, and Max Stockwell who added 13 points. Canon O’ Heron had 13 points to lead the way for Bangor. Hillsboro moves on to play in the sectional semi-final at Neillsville Thursday night against Cochrane-Fountain City, who knocked off the other top-seed in the bracket, Gilmanton, 62-60.

In division two, Sauk Prairie defeated top-seeded Reedsburg, 62-58, after they were swept in conference play by the Beavers earlier this year. Sauk Prairie moves on to face another conference foe and top-seed when they match-up against Mount Horeb in the sectional semi-final this week. The Eagles were also swept by Mount Horeb in conference play earlier this season.
