MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Caleb Zeegers scored 18 points and Sam Mader had 14 points and 12 rebounds as Appleton East defeated Antigo 54-46 in a WIAA state boys basketball tournament Division 1 quarterfinal game Thursday at the Kohl Center.  The Patriots (22-5) advance to Friday’s semifinals, where they will play defending champion Madison Memorial.
Appleton East took advantage of Antigo’s cold shooting start to build a 13-4 lead after one quarter. The Red Robins (24-1) were just 1-of-16 from the field in the first period.  Antigo senior Jordan Mach led the Red Robins with 24 points. But the UW-Parkside recruit was just 6-of-22 from the floor, and struggled down the stretch.
The Patriots never trailed after falling behind 3-0 to start,
and led by as many as 12 points in the third period.  Antigo fought back to within 42-40 on Skylar Cameron’s layup with 2:19 left in the fourth quarter, but Appleton East was 12-of-16 from the free-throw line to finish the game and pull away.
