While the power was out in Mauston Friday night, the game went on as scheduled in Wisconsin Dells as the Chiefs hosted the Mauston Golden Eagles in South Central Conference play. They had power issues as well with the scoreboard and press box going black half a dozen times throughout the game. Meanwhile, the Chiefs were playing lights-out as they went on to win their first game of the season. Mauston was looking for back-to-back wins after their win on Homecoming night last week against Adams-Friendship, while the Dells were entering the game still winless on the season.

The Chiefs struck first by scoring on the opening possession of the ball game, but Mauston answered with a 71-yard touchdown run by Zach Evans. Wisconsin Dells would come right back and score another touchdown to take a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. The Chiefs would open it up with two more scores in the second quarter before Mauston was able to put together a drive and get points on the board before halftime with an 8-yard pass from Steve Ferguson to Cameron Dahlgren. The Dells led 30-14 at the half.

The Chiefs would add another touchdown late in the third quarter with Mauston scoring early in the fourth on a 14-yard run by JD Lierman. Wisconsin Dells answered right back with a 61-yard touchdown run. The Golden Eagles would end the night with Lierman recovering a fumble and returning it about 50-yards for a touchdown. The Chiefs pick-up their first win of the season with a 46-28 final score, as both teams are now just 1-7.

The Dells will wrap-up their season on the road at Adams-Friendship next week, while Mauston will be back at home to host the Nekoosa Papermakers for their final game of the season. Mauston, Wisconsin Dells, and Adams-Friendship have been eliminated from playoff contention, while Westfield picked up their third conference win Friday night to advance to the playoffs for the first time in more than 10 years with their win over the Green Devils. Wautoma is also qualified for the post-season even after losing to Nekoosa Friday night with the conference title on the line. The Papermakers secured at least a share of their third straight conference title by beating the Hornets, and will be looking to remain perfect in conference play and have sole possession of the crown when they wrap-up the regular season at Mauston.
