1st Round of Regionals for Girls’ High School Basketball
The Mauston girls’ basketball team had their season come to an end last night, as they traveled to take on Elk Mound in the first round of regional tournament action, and were defeated 56-37. The Mounders were led in scoring by McKenna McVey who had a game-high 16 points, while Andrea Thomas led the way for Mauston with 14. Elk Mound advances to play at top-seeded Neillsville on Friday. Mauston ends their season with a 13-10 overall record, and say goodbye to seven seniors. Andrea Thomas finishes her career with 1,609 points as a varsity player for Mauston. Elsewhere from last night, in division two; Reedsburg beat Portage, 49-32, and will play at Waunakee on Friday night. Sauk Prairie defeated Baraboo, 52-46, and advances to play at top-seeded DeForest. And Holmen beat Tomah, 48-29, and will play at top-seeded Onalaska. In division three; Westfield defeated River Valley, 43-37, and will go up against top-seeded Adams-Friendship on Friday. Wisconsin Dells beat Wautoma, 58-49, and will face Richland Center next. And Nekoosa was defeated by Prairie du Chien, 57-43. In division four; Necedah’s season came to an end as they were defeated by Blair-Taylor, 58-35. In division five; top-seeded Hillsboro beat Royall, 26-14, and will host La Farge on Friday night, after they beat Wonewoc-Center, 40-28. And Cashton defeated Weston, 50-38, and will play at Bangor on Friday after the Cardinals beat New Lisbon, 52-27.
