Mosinee Dominates Mauston in Season-Opener: 45-7
Friday night, Mauston travelled to Mosinee to take on the Indians in non-conference action to kick-off the 2010 high school football season. On a beautiful night for football, things did not go well for the Mauston Golden Eagles.
Mosinee took the opening kick-off down the field 66 yards on 4 plays to take an early 7-0 lead. Senior running back Joe Kahler led the way with a 42 yard run to set up his 7 yard rushing touchdown. The Indians would put 2 more TD’s on the board in the 1st quarter with a 55 yard pass play from their junior QB Nate Ehster to junior Derek Plath for one, and junior running back Bryce Hladovcak would tack on a 1 yard touchdown run for the other.
5 turnovers were the key to the loss for the Golden Eagles. Senior quarterback Brady Nelson threw 3 interceptions, and senior running back Nick Wilke lost 2 fumbles. The Indians were able to capitalize on each of the Mauston turnovers.
In the 2nd quarter, Mosinee added a 27 yard field goal from senior Hunter Esslinger, and a 40 yard touchdown run from Kahler to take a 31-0 lead into the half.
The 2nd half wasn’t much better for Mauston as they came out and turned the ball over on their first possession. The Golden Eagles had also turned the ball over on their first possession of the 1st half. The Indians would score later in the 3rd quarter on Kahler’s 3rd TD of the night from 10 yards out. Mosinee would wrap up their scoring early in the 4th quarter as junior Jordan Roosa returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown to make it 45-0.
Mauston would finally get on the board late in the 4th quarter with a 2 yard run from Nelson to end the game on a positive note. The Golden Eagles will look to build off of that for next week’s home opener against Lake Mills in non-conference play.
