Milwaukee men’s basketball returns to campus
MILWAUKEE (AP) – The Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team is moving its games back to campus.
New athletic director Andy Geiger said Tuesday that the men’s team would play its home games at the Klotsche Center beginning with the 2012-13 season. The school plans improvements to the facility, which will seat approximately 3,400. Officials also are studying options to build a new arena.
Other than a handful of games at the Klotsche Center, the Panthers have played the majority of their games at the U.S. Cellular Arena in downtown Milwaukee for the past nine seasons. The move satisfied a Horizon League bylaw calling for men’s basketball facilities to seat at least 5,000. UWM now has obtained a waiver of that bylaw.
Geiger says, “We’re coming home. College games belong on college campuses.”
