The Mauston girls’ volleyball team hosted Wautoma Thursday night in South Central Conference play during Homecoming week in Mauston, and came up short in a five-set battle. After dropping the first set 17-25, Mauston fought back to win the second set 25-23. The Hornets handled the Golden Eagles in the third set, 25-11, but Mauston was relentless as they stole the fourth set with another 25-23 victory. Wautoma was too much for the Golden Eagles in the decisive fifth set, as the Hornets went on to win 15-5. Mauston falls to 2-4 in conference play, and Wautoma improves to 4-1 in the conference. The Golden Eagles JV and JV Reserve were also beaten by the Hornets, as they both fell in straight sets. Mauston will host Pioneer Westfield next Tuesday evening for parent’s night at the Mauston High School.
