The Mauston Golden Eagles girls’ tennis team traveled to Onalaska Luther and went down to defeat in 7 matches on Monday.  “No doubt, they are an excellent team…all business!” said Coach Laura Taake.  “They take their opponents to task!”  Shining moments were at number four singles as Alyssa Meija-Crowe gave her opponent a respectable match. Also, number three doubles, Ashlee Nelson and Allison Bauer, lost 1-6, came back 6-3, and finally succumbed 2-6 in the third set.  Tuesday, the Golden Eagles traveled to Viroqua to take on the Blackhawks.  It came down to the wire in four matches with all four going into three sets.  “We were without our number two singles player, therefore, I had to make a total line-up change. The athletes compensated very well,” said Coach Taake.   Alyssa Meija-Crowe lost in three very close sets, along with Jenna Reed.  A freshman doubles team at number two, Veronica Saylor and Ellie Luke, battled for close to two hours, going down with a struggle (2-6, 7-6, 4-6).  The wins came at number one doubles, Pakou and Chamee Vang, (6-3, 6-1), and Ashlee Nelson and Allison Bauer won (3-6, 6-2, 6-3). Nelson and Bauer are playing the best tennis of their four years.  The JV team also continues to show improvement as they keep increasing their percentages of winning. The Golden Eagles travel to Black River Falls Saturday for their Conference Tournament.
