Mauston Girls Season Ends At Sauk Prairie: 72-31
The Sauk Prairie Eagles hosted the Mauston Golden Eagles in the first round of WIAA Regional action, and just like the previous week when the Mauston boys team travelled to Sauk Prairie for tournament action, the Eagles had their way with the Golden Eagles. The girls season would end much the same way with a lop-sided affair at the hands of Sauk Prairie.
The Eagles got out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, but it was in the second quarter when Sauk Prairie would really pull away and take a 36-14 lead into halftime. The Eagles would almost double their lead in the second half as they went on to win by 41. Sauk Prairie moves on to host Reedsburg in the second round of WIAA Regional action Thursday night as they improve to 19-4 overall.
One of the top scorers in the state of Wisconsin this season, senior Kelsey Budd, led all scorers with 23 points for the Eagles. Sauk Prairie also got double-digit scoring from Rachel Meyer with 12, and Lacey Puls added 11. Other scorers included Kelsey Kohlbeck off the bench with 9, 8 for Aimee Thrune, 6 for Brittany Hahn, 2 for Alison Halweg, and 1 free-throw for Andrea Fiene.
Mauston was led in scoring by junior Kayla Thomas with 12 points who was the only player to reach double-digits. Other contributors were Alexis Goedjen with 8, 4 a piece for Tiffany Schumer and Miranda Jirousek, 2 for Kim Golden, and 1 free-throw for Katie Barber. Mauston ends their season with a 5-18 overall record as they look to rebound next year with a lot of returning players. The Golden Eagles say goodbye to seniors Miranda Jirousek, Kim Golden, and Kelsey Walsh who saw her season end early with an injury.
