Tuesday night, the Mauston girls basketball team travelled to Nekoosa to take on the Papermakers in South Central Conference action. The Golden Eagles were looking to stay at the top of the SCC standings with a win, as Nekoosa came into the match-up 2 games back in the conference chase.

In a hard fought game by both sides, Mauston was finally able to take the lead late in the game, and came out with another conference win. The Golden Eagles still have a losing record at 4-6, but are now 3-1 in conference play. Westfield and Wisconsin Dells are tied with Mauston at the top of the conference, but the Golden Eagles have beaten both of those teams already once this season. Mauston’s only loss in conference was to Adams-Friendship who sitsĀ at 2-2, with a 9-3 overall record.

The Golden Eagles have been led in scoring this year by freshman Andrea Thomas, and her older sister, senior Kayla Thomas. The Thomas sisters are 2 of the top scorers in the South Central Conference, with younger sister, Andrea, leading all scorers in the SCC.

Mauston will host River Valley in non-conference action next Tuesday night, and then travel to Wautoma next Friday night for more South Central Conference play.
