The Mauston boys’ basketball team competed in the State Farm Tournament of Champions inPeoria,Illinoisover the holiday weekend. The Golden Eagles were invited to participate in this tournament which showcases some of the best high school players around theMidwest. Mauston went up against some tough competition, and came back with a single victory. The Golden Eagles split their first two games of the tournament toIllinoisschools. They dropped their first game to Alton Marquette 53-41, then picked up a win againstSpringfield55-48. Mauston wrapped up the weekend with a loss toGrandview, a school out ofMissouri, 66-48. Senior Joel Heesch led the team in scoring averaging 20 points per game, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Earlier this month, Heesch signed his letter of intent to attend Wayne State College, a division two school inWayne,Nebraska. The Golden Eagles are now 3-2 on the season, and will be back at home for their next game on Thursday night against Reedsburg in non-conference play.
