Tuesday night, the Mauston boys basketball team travelled to West Salem to take on the Panthers in non-conference action. The Golden Eagles got out to a quick 6-0 start with three lay-ups to start the game. Mauston would take the lead and never look back, as they took a 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter, 16-6. The Golden Eagles maintained their 10 point lead at the half, 23-13.

The points and fouls really picked up in the second half, as Mauston extended their lead to 45-29 at the end of the third quarter, but the Panthers kept hanging around. West Salem outscored Mauston in the fourth quarter, but could never get close enough to get back in the game.

The Panthers were led in scoring by junior Tyler Kastenschmidt who had 10 points in the fourth quarter, and finished the game with 16. Also scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter, was senior J.T. Rogala who finished with 14. Other scorers included: junior Brent Servais with 9, senior Tony Schultz, junior Luke Schultz, and senior Stephen Helstad all had 5 points a piece, senior Dominick Selck added 3 points, and juniors Nolan Wahoske and Eric Trautman added a free-throw. West Salem was 13-21 from the free-throw line, with five 3-pointers in the game.

The Golden Eagles had four of their five starters reach double figures in scoring, and were led by senior Brady Nelson with 22 points, who was 8-9 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Joel Heesch ended the night with 18 points, senior David Linsmeyer finished with 13, and sophomore Hunter Nelson had a good night scoring 11 points. Junior Jack Orton added 4 points off the bench, and junior Dale Osthoff contributed a free-throw. Mauston was 21-29 from the line, with two 3-pointers a piece from seniors Brady Nelson and David Linsmeyer.

West Salem falls to 1-3 on the season, and Mauston remains undefeated at 6-0. The Golden Eagles will host Pioneer Westfield Friday night in South Central Conference action.
