Friday night, the Mauston Golden Eagles boys basketball team hosted Pioneer Westfield in South Central Conference action. Both teams came into the game 1-0 in conference play. The game was tied at 5 a piece early in the first quarter, but then Mauston went on an 11-0 run to finish the quarter, and they never looked back. The Golden Eagles had a 16-5 lead after the first, 33-16 lead at halftime, it was 51-27 at the end of three, and they wrapped the game up with a 73-42 victory.

Senior Jake Semrow led all scorers with 17 points for Pioneer Westfield, including four 3-pointers. Senior Ty McLaughlin added 9 points, senior Dan Wohlfert finished with 5, senior Ky Hackbart contributed 4 points, junior Steven Rock added 3, and juniors Casey Knaup and Justin Kruse had 2 points a piece. Westfield was 5-13 from the line, with seven 3-pointers in the game.

Mauston was led in scoring by senior Brady Nelson, and sophomore Joel Heesch, who both scored 16 points. Senior David Linsmeyer also led the way for the Golden Eagles with 13 points. Junior Taylor Ingraham had a big second quarter off the bench, scoring all 8 of his points. Sophomore Hunter Nelson added 7 points, junior Jack Orton had 6, junior Dale Osthoff finished with 4 points, and junior AJ Butts came into the game late in the fourth quarter, and finished the night with 3 points for the Golden Eagles. Mauston was just 9-20 from the free-throw line, with four 3-pointers in the game.

The Golden Eagles stay undefeated on the season at 7-0, and move to 2-0 in conference play. Westfield falls to 3-3 overall, and 1-1 in the conference. Mauston will host Sparta in non-conference action Thursday night before Christmas break.
