Hopeful Marquette braces for No. 4 Villanova
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Marquette has a bit of confidence heading into Saturday’s Big East matchup against No. 4 Villanova. Wins have been tougher to come by this season for the Golden Eagles (11-8, 3-3), the preseason league favorite. But coach Buzz Williams’ team is hopeful after grinding out an 80-72 win in overtime on the road against Georgetown on Monday. As usual, defense isn’t a problem. Scoring has been more of an issue, along with inconsistency in the backcourt. That’s what makes the win over the Hoyas important, after freshman guard John Dawson scored 12 off the bench, while junior Todd Mayo hit a 3 with 6 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Marquette also has also won 20 straight conference games at home, the third-longest streak in the country.
