LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Add two governors to the list of fans ready
to watch next month’s football matchup between Nebraska and
Wisconsin.
Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker are
scheduled to watch the game together on Oct. 1 in Madison. It’s the
first bout between the Huskers and Badgers since Nebraska
officially joined the Big Ten in July.
Heineman made headlines last year when he placed a friendly
wager with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon. Heineman put Nebraska’s
world-renowned Omaha Steaks on the line, while Nixon countered with
black walnut and chocolate candy from Hammons Black Walnuts in
Stockton, Mo., and fishing lures. Nebraska won that game, 31-17.
An aide to Heineman said the governor has no specific plans for
the Wisconsin meeting, “other than to watch Nebraska win.”
