Girls’ Basketball: Gilmanton Defeats Hillsboro, Adams-Friendship Moves On
In division five girls high school basketball sectional semifinal action from last night, the fourth-seeded Gilmanton Panthers continued their Cinderella run in the tournament with a 43-39 upset victory over the top-seeded Hillsboro Tigers at Neillsville. Hillsboro held the lead for much of the game, but Gilmanton kept it close and took their first lead in the third quarter. The Tigers regained the lead heading into the fourth quarter only to have the Panthers capture the lead back in the final minutes. Gilmanton was then able to hold onto the lead to close out the victory. The Panthers were led in scoring by Lexi Severson who had 16 points and Brittany Laehn who finished with 14 points. The Tigers were led by Sami Levy who had 12 points and Kelsey Skala who finished with 10 points. Gilmanton moves on to play undefeated Barneveld in the sectional final game at La Crosse Logan High School Saturday night, while Hillsboro finishes the season 21-5 overall.
Also in action last night were the top-seeded Adams-Friendship girls who were able to hang on to beat Edgewood, 28-26, in division two sectional semifinal play. The Green Devils move on to play top-seeded and undefeated Brodhead Saturday night in the sectional final at Middleton, with a trip to the state tournament on the line.
