MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Senior T.J. Bray had 25 points and 12
rebounds as Waukesha Catholic Memorial held off Sauk Prairie 52-49
in a WIAA Division 2 state semifinal boys basketball game Friday.
     The top-ranked Crusaders (26-2) move on to Saturday’s state
final against Maple Northwestern or Kiel.
     Catholic Memorial won despite going nearly 11 minutes without a
field goal in the second half and missing three free throws in the
last minute.
     Sauk (21-7) squandered two chances to win or tie the game in the
final seconds.
     Down 51-49 and with 17.7 seconds left the Eagles got the ball to
Matt Rudig, who missed a shot against a double team. The ball went
out of bounds off a defender, giving Sauk the ball with 6.5 seconds
left, but senior Sam Koenig missed a 3-point attempt.
     Catholic Memorial’s Derek Schell grabbed the rebound, was fouled
and made one of two free throws.
     Catholic Memorial led 38-26 in the third quarter before Sauk
stormed back with a 13-0 run. Rudig had five points in the surge.
     Bray, a Princeton recruit, ended a 7:07 scoring drought with two
free throws with 6:50 left in the game.
     Mike Neary had 12 points for the Crusaders, who have won 20
straight games.
     Rudig scored 13 points, Drew Carden had 11 and Koenig added 10
for the Eagles, who had their 14-game winning streak snapped.
