The Mauston Golden Eagles boys’ basketball team was on the road Thursday night, and their shooting was about as cold as the temperature outside. Reedsburg finished the first quarter on a 16-3 run to take a 20-7 lead into the second quarter. The Beavers doubled-up Mauston at the half 32-16, and after a late push by the Golden Eagles to get back within 8-points in the fourth quarter, Reedsburg was able to put the game away at the free-throw line.

The Beavers were led by junior Capreace Salinas-Caldwell who had 18-points in the second-half and made 7 of 8 free-throws in the fourth quarter to finish with 22-points. Sophomore Nate Runde had a big first quarter where he scored 12 of his 14-points for the Beavers. Senior Durrell Naquin added 9-points for Reedsburg, while senior Jacob Nachtigal and sophomore Dakota Perron both contributed 5-points a piece, and junior Justin Bergman had 4-points off the bench. The Beavers shot 57% from the free-throw line making 11 of 19.

Even though the shooting wasn’t there for the Golden Eagles, junior Joel Heesch still got his share with 22-points. Most of the points came below the basket or on lay-ups for Mauston, but they did shoot well from the line as they shot 80% making 16 of 20. Senior Taylor Ingraham added 6-points for the Golden Eagles, with senior Dale Osthoff and juniors Ross Thompson and Skylar Reicks all adding 4-points a piece. Junior Hunter Nelson finished with 3-points, while senior Jack Orton added 2 free-throws.

Mauston falls to 8-5 overall while Reedsburg improves to 8-5. The Golden Eagles are just 4-4 in non-conference play as they head to Sparta Tuesday night to take on the Spartans.
