MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Glen Perkins got to pitch the ninth inning for the American League in the All-Star game this week, representing the host Minnesota Twins in the same place he was born and raised. Rare are the occurrences in sports that come together as smoothly as that. Perkins was taken aback by how loud the crowd became when he emerged from the bullpen and jogged to the mound to complete the most memorable save of his career. After the game at Target Field on Tuesday night, Perkins described the experience as an “overwhelming moment.”
