James Robert Stormoen, age 92, of Adams, Wisconsin died Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Liberty Village in Adams, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Arkdale Trinity Lutheran Church in Arkdale, Wisconsin.   Pastor Terri Skildum will officiate.  Interment will be at the South Arkdale Cemetery, Town of Strongs Prairie, Adams County, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at Arkdale Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jim was born January 1, 1925 in Dellwood, Wisconsin to John and Rachel (Johnson) Stormoen.  He worked for Alvin and Nels Hanson on the farm as a young man, for this brother-in-law, Harold Ashworth clearing away trees for the Castle Rock and Petenwell Lakes.  In 1944, he was drafted in the service where he served two years in the Navy.   While in the Navy, he was a gunner’s mate and spent most of his time at sea where he saw a great deal of action.  Following the war, he worked at the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Illinois.  In 1950, he married Lillian Barnes on November 4, 1950 in Dellwood Lutheran Church.  Jim then worked in Milwaukee at the Heil Co. In 1960, he an Lilian moved back to Adams-Friendship and he managed the Sinclair Station.  Jim eventually bought the station from Kenyon Follett and added a car wash, two additional bays, and two wreckers for road services.  Through the years, as business continued to grow, Ivan Smedbron joined him as a partner and they purchased an additional wrecker. On January 1st, 1987 he retired to enjoy his fishing and hunting.

Jim was very active in his Lodge, Quincy Lodge #71 F&AM, was a member of the Consistory in Eau Claire, and Zor Shrine in Madison, and was past president of the Heart of Wisconsin Shrine Club.  He was a member of VFW Post #6279, on the board of directors for M&I Bank, Chamber of Commerce, and the American Legion Post #250, Arkdale Trinity Lutheran Church and was past president of the Council and held many other offices. Jim plowed the church parking lot for 45 years.  He was on the Adams Fire Department for many years and served as the Assistant Chief.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rachel (Johnson) Stormoen; brothers: Norval (Rosalie), Joseph (Mae), Gustave (Myrtle), and James; sisters:  Rogna (Edward) Lotzow, Ida (Harold) Ashworth, Lucille (William) Graham; Olga (August) Duehring, Laura Stormoen, and Rachel (Ray) Jepson.

Survivors include his wife:  Lillian Stormoen of Adams, Wisconsin
Brother:  John L. (Audrey) Stormoen of Arkdale, Wisconsin
Sister-in-law: Marge Waller of Adams, Wisconsin
Sister-in-law: Lola Lord of Madison, Wisconsin.
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many good friends.
