Wisconsin man giving $75,000 to help kids with cancer
MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) – A Door County man whose 5-year-old grandson was diagnosed with leukemia last year has created a fund at the Marshfield Clinic to help other families of young cancer patients. A News-Herald Media report says Werner Krause made the announcement Wednesday. The total gift will equal $75,000. His grandson was diagnosed with leukemia but it’s now in remission. Werner Krause’s son, Dave Krause, recalls meeting other families in waiting rooms and cancer camps and seeing the stress on their faces. He says people won’t admit they’re having problems, but the problems exist. The fund will provide help through gas cards, grocery cards and payment of household bills. The Krauses are giving $25,000 to create the fund and another $25,000 to maintain it. They’ll also match up to $25,000 in donations made by others.
