>>Walker Meets With President Trump On Infrastructure Plan

(Washington, DC)  —  Wisconsin’s Scott Walker was one of a few Republican governors meeting with President Trump at the White House Monday.  They were talking about the president’s plan to leverage 200-billion dollars in federal funding to produce one-and-a-half-trillion for the nation’s infrastructure needs.  Walker calls plans for the one-point-six-billion dollar Interstate 94 project a good example of cooperation between federal, state and local governments.  Money for that work is already in the Wisconsin state budget and Walker thinks it can be fully funded through the help from the federal government.

 

>>Wisconsin Assembly Votes Tuesday On Free Tuition For Foster Children

(Madison, WI)  —  Members of the Wisconsin Assembly are scheduled to vote today (Tuesday) on a bill which would waive tuition and fees for foster children wanting to attend college.  Wisconsin would become the 29th state with some form of post-secondary tuition help on the books for foster children.  The legislation is said to have bipartisan support.  It would eliminate tuition and fees at University of Wisconsin System schools and state technical colleges for state residents who meet the criteria.  As many as 46-hundred people could qualify for the program.

 

>>Bystanders Rescue Small Boy In Hotel Swimming Pool

(Glendale, WI)  —  The Glendale Police Department says bystanders played a major role in saving a two-year-old boy from drowning in a hotel swimming pool last weekend.  They pulled him out of the water and performed C-P-R until police arrived.  The boy’s name hasn’t been released and police haven’t said how he got into the water.  He had a pulse and was breathing on his own when he was taken to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa.  He was initially reported to be in critical condition.

 

>>31-Year-Old Woman Arrested On Possible Child Neglect Charges

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  A 31-year-old woman could face child neglect charges in the fire-related death of a baby.  One-year-old Quamyiia Owens was rescued from the fire in a north Milwaukee home Saturday at about 10:00 P-M.  The little girl died Sunday morning at a hospital.  An autopsy was done yesterday (Monday).  Milwaukee Police are still investigating the circumstances which led to the fire and the child’s death.

 

>>DNR Official Leaves Wisconsin, Joins Former Boss At EPA

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports another top official is leaving to join the Trump administration.  Deputy D-N-R Secretary Kurt Thiede will become chief of staff at the E-P-A Region Five office in Chicago.  He will be re-joining his former boss, Cathy Stepp.  She was Wisconsin D-N-R secretary from 2011 to 2017 before taking the position as a deputy administrator in a regional office near Kansas City.  She was named Region Five administrator in December.  Thiede had been with the state agency for 19 years.  He will be replaced by Ed Eberle.

 

>>Authorities Conduct Statewide Search For Northern Wisconsin Suspect

(Hurley, WI)  —  A statewide search is underway for a northern Wisconsin man accused of conspiring to commit murder.  Four people are already in custody in the December 22nd fatal shooting of Wayne Valliere Junior.  Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Justice say they are looking for James Lussier.  He is also wanted in Vilas County for charges related to the Valliere killing — and he’s wanted in Marathon County in an unrelated case.  Suspects Richard Allen, Joseph Lussier, Evan Oungst and Curtis Wolfe are being held in the Iron County Jail.
