MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Nine Wisconsin state properties are offering special hikes on New Year’s Day. Park rangers and volunteers will lead visitors on foot or on snowshoe. Each event will be different and could include campfires, cross-country skiing, hot beverages, crafts and storytelling. Participating properties include Devil’s Lake, Peninsula, and Mirror Lake state parks as well as three Kettle Moraine State Forest units. A complete schedule is available on the state Department of Natural Resources’ website. The outings are part of a national program called First Day Hikes. State parks across the country will be offering similar hikes through the program on New Year’s Day.
