Utilities restoring power
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Thousands of Wisconsin residents who lost power in this week’s rain and ice storms have had their electricity restored, and utility crews are continuing to restore the remaining customers. Fewer than 1,000 We Energies customers remained without power Thursday afternoon, mostly in Shawano County. But Wisconsin Public Service reported fresh outages in Stevens Point, Minocqua and surrounding areas. About 3,600 customers were without electricity on Thursday. As many as 30,000 people lost power Wednesday. The most affected communities were those in the Lake Winnebago area. More than half were restored by Wednesday afternoon. About a dozen schools in eastern Wisconsin were closed on Wednesday due to power outages. More than 20 others delayed opening for two hours.
