Unemployment Checks Backlog
MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Benefit checks have been delayed for more than 9,000 unemployed Wisconsinites because of a state backlog. Labor officials say the claims that are backlogged are all in need of manual processing because the filer received an overpayment after underreporting wages. Department of Workforce Development John Dipko said in an email to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://tinyurl.com/93ktk8s ) the backlog includes nearly 9,400 claims dating back to late July. Dipko says it could take as long as March to clear up the backlog. DWD secretary Georgia Maxwell says the backlog is inexcusable. She says the department will bring in more people to get the situation rectified as soon as possible.
