Thanksgiving travelers try to be thrifty
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Some Wisconsin residents traveling for Thanksgiving are trying to be thrifty due to the slow economic recovery. There was a long line for the 8:15 a.m. train Wednesday to Chicago at the Milwaukee Amtrak station. Among them were 46-year-old Kelly Roberts and her 7-year-old son Colin. They are spending Thanksgiving in Chicago as tourists. Roberts says she booked the hotel early for a good price, is getting in free to the museums and skipping the $65 a person Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel. Thirty-seven-year-old Daniel Blankenship was taking a day trip with his son and wife. They traveled from Seattle for the holiday. Blankenship says they switched their travel days and flew into Midway Airport in Chicago instead of Milwaukee to save money.
