Spirituality Center Sold
MARATHON, Wis. (AP) – A spiritual retreat center in central Wisconsin will not close at the end of the year after all. St. Anthony’s Spirituality Center in Marathon has been sold to a group that pledges to continue its mission. The center will stay open thanks to a newly formed nonprofit, St. Anthony’s of Marathon, Inc. Vice President Barbara Ceranski says the acquisition includes the center’s property and its mission. Businesses, nonprofits and civic organizations sent an estimated 4,000 people on retreats to St. Anthony’s last year. St. Anthony’s had become too much of a financial burden for the Capuchin friars who have lived there since 1918. The friars will still leave at the end of the year. Wisconsin Public Radio (http://bit.ly/1dJbBMA) reports the purchase price was not disclosed.
