Released from asylum after 38 years
WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) – A Wisconsin man who killed two police officers in 1975 is on the verge of being released after 38 years in a mental health institution. Alan Randall was 16 when he was committed for gunning down the Waukesha County officers. Now 55, he’ll have to adjust to being on his own for the first time in his life. A jury recommended Randall’s release this spring. A judge was expected to sign off on the arrangement Friday. Randall was supposed to be freed last month, but state officials weren’t able to find housing for him outside of Waukesha County. The widow and sister of one slain officer both still live there, and they didn’t want Randall to be allowed back. Randall, who has no living relatives, also didn’t want to return.
