A single-vehicle crash occurred Sunday morning, November 24, 2019, at approximately 6:45 AM, in the town of Franklin.  Phillip R. Townsend, age 50, of rural Readstown, WI was operating a full-size, heavy-duty pickup truck, southbound, on State Highway 27, just south of Zitzner Road.

The temperature was close to the freezing level and frost had formed on a shaded section of roadway.  Philip Townsend was traveling uphill and while negotiating a curve to the left and lost control.  The vehicle crossed the highway a struck a rock embankment, head-on, along the left side of the roadway.

Phillip Townsend was wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle airbags deployed.  Townsend sustained possible injuries, but refused transport.

Sheriff Spears reminds motorists to remain alert and be aware of changes to weather and roadway conditions.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Viroqua Fire Department and Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.
