Milwaukee man charged in woman’s hit-and-run death
MILWAUKEE (AP) – A Milwaukee man is charged with a felony in the hit-and-run death of a newly engaged art therapy student. Prosecutors charged 48-year-old Edwood Hastings on Wednesday with one count of hit and run resulting in death. Hastings is accused of striking and killing 32-year-old Andrea Barringer as she crossed a street Sunday night, and then taking off. Hastings told police he had just bought groceries and was driving down the street when three people came out between cars. He said he tried to brake, but it was too late. Barringer died at the scene. Hastings said he briefly stopped, “freaked out,” then drove home and drank beer to calm down. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/13Ad3b9 ) reports Hastings remains in jail. A court appearance has not been scheduled yet.
