Man sentenced to life in mental institution
SHAWANO, Wis. (AP) – A 21-year-old Shawano County man accused of killing his father has been sentenced to life in a mental institution. A Shawano County judge sentenced Joshua Johnson on Thursday. In October, the court accepted Johnson’s plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease. A criminal complaint says Johnson shot, stabbed and beat his 53-year-old father, Donald Johnson, last February. Doctors called by the defense had testified that Johnson suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. The district attorney says Johnson’s placement at a mental health facility is still being worked out. WAOW-TV (http://bit.ly/UILVoH) reports as part of his sentence Johnson has the right to petition for a review every six months.
