MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Democratic Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne is running for attorney general. Ozanne made the announcement in an email Thursday. His entry into the race sets up a Democratic primary next year as state Rep. Jon Richards, of Milwaukee, has already joined the race. The seat is open after Republican Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced he will not be seeking a third term. Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel is the only announced Republican candidate. Ozanne says in his email to supporters that his 13 years’ experience as a prosecutor qualifies him for the position. Ozanne was appointed district attorney by Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle in 2010. Ozanne made headlines in 2011 after he unsuccessfully sued to stop Gov. Scott Walker’s collective bargaining restrictions.
