APPLETON, Wis. (AP) – Two babies are safe following a police standoff with a gunman in Appleton that lasted seven hours. Police arrested the 34-year-old man late Tuesday night after he threatened to kill himself during the standoff. Two 6-month-old children were in the house with the man. Sgt. David Lund tells WLUK-TV (http://bit.ly/H0iN9q ) the man eventually agreed to bring the children out of the house, then returned to the home. Lund says the man was carrying a long gun when he brought the babies outside. Lund says the man surrendered about an hour and a-half later. Police say he’s not the father of the children, who were returned safely to their parents.
