A Wisconsin Dells man was charged with OWI-7th Offense on Monday. According to the criminal complaint, on Sunday, a Juneau County deputy observed a vehicle on County Road HH near 51st Street in the Town of Marion turning its lights on and off, and then hitting the shoulder of the road.  The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 47-year-old Phillip Cholka, pulled into a nearby parking lot, got out of his vehicle and ran into the woods. A passenger in the vehicle told the deputy that Cholka had been driving and he had been drinking earlier. Law enforcement was able to locate Cholka and there were signs of impairment. Cholka refused to perform field sobriety tests, and after he was arrested, he was transported to Mile Bluff Medical Center for a blood draw. He refused to voluntarily give one, so a warrant was obtained. After he was cleared, Cholka was transported to the Juneau County Jail. At a bond hearing on Monday, bond was set at a $500 cash bond and Cholka is to maintain absolute sobriety, not to frequent any bars, taverns, or establishments that sell alcohol, and he is not to drive without a valid driver’s license. He has also been charged with obstructing an officer and operating a motor vehicle after revocation.
