The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office will be holding its Annual Vernon County Police Memorial Service on May 13th. Sheriff John Spears says this is an opportunity for law enforcement to remind the public of the sacrifices made daily by officers in protecting the lives and property of our citizens.  According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, on average there have been almost 60,000 assaults against law enforcement each year and over 150 deaths per year. Sheriff Spears also says that the event corresponds with National Police Week, which will be observed May 11th thru May 17th. Everyone is welcome to attend the memorial service at the Sheriff’s Office on May 13th at 10:00am.  In the event of rain, the service will be moved inside the Sheriff’s Office.
