SHERIFF JOHN SPEARS REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ONGOING ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR AND NARRATIVE EXCERPTS FROM THE WEEK ENDING January 20, 2014
1/14 Jeffrey Raasch, Coon Valley, was traveling on Old Line Road in the Town of Coon and got too far off the right shoulder. Raasch lost control and struck a tree causing damage to his vehicle. He suffered no apparent injury.
1/14 Timothy Morgan, Viroqua, was traveling on Highway 56 in the Town of Liberty and lost control around the curve of the road. Morgan reported he had no traction. His vehicle struck a utility pole causing severe damage to the base of the pole. Morgan was not injured.
1/14 Kara Wegner, La Farge, was traveling on State Highway 82 in the Town of Stark when she lost control of her vehicle on a curve in the road. Wegner’s vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Susan Cushing, La Farge, causing damage to both vehicles. Neither driver suffered apparent injuries.
1/14 Samantha Goodwin, Readstown, lost control on snow covered roads in the Town of Franklin. Her vehicle struck a guardrail and went into the ditch. Goodwin was uninjured.
1/14 While driving a snowplow for the Vernon County Highway Department, Carlyle Knutson, Viroqua, hooked an ice covered power line in the Village of Readstown and pulled it down. Knutson was not injured.
1/14 Sheri Gricius, Chaseburg, was attempting to make a left turn from US Highway 14 onto Hellwig Lane in the Town of Hamburg. She lost control on the snow covered roads and went off the road into a ditch. Gricius was not injured.
1/15 June Copus, Gays Mills, was attempting a turn onto Dummert Lane from Highway 14 in the Town of Kickapoo when her vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Roger Nash, Soldiers Grove. Nash reported he did not see Copus’ turn signal due to the sun and had started to pass her on the left. Copus reported she tried to swerve back to the right to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. Neither driver reported injuries.
1/15 Todd Welter, Winona, MN, reported that has he we backing his vehicle up in a parking lot at One Organic Way, Village of La Farge. He struck a parked vehicle owned by Bernie Buchner, Inc., La Crosse. There was damage to both vehicles. No one was injured.
1/18 Curtis Nelson, Viroqua, was traveling eastbound on Main Street in the Village of DeSoto. As he was negotiating a curve he struck a mailbox. Nelson was not injured.
1/18 Amy Davis, Chaseburg, was backing out of a private driveway in the Town of Wheatland when she lost control on the snow and ice covered drive. Her vehicle went over an embankment and overturned onto County Road UU. Davis suffered no injuries.
1/18 Devin Clements, La Crosse, was traveling on State Highway 35 in the Town of Bergen when he lost control of his vehicle on the ice and snow covered road. His vehicle went down an embankment through some brush. Clements was not injured.
1/20 5 reportable car/deer crashes:
Brad Winchel, La Farge, on State Highway 82, Town of Stark;
Sheila Larson, Westby, on US Highway 14, Town of Hamburg;
Jeremy Halverson, Viroqua, on State Highway 56, Town of Harmony;
Rodger Pratt, Westby, on State Highway 14, Town of Coon;
Corey Christenson, Cashton, on County Road P, Town of Christiana;
