SHERIFF JOHN SPEARS REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ONGOING ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR AND NARRATIVE EXCERPTS FROM THE WEEK ENDING December 9, 2013

12/2  Derik Laufenberg, Westby, lost control of his vehicle on a snowy curve of County Road P, Town of Christiana.  He went off road and into the ditch, but suffered no injuries.

12/2  Clint Ayesh, La Farge, lost control of his vehicle on a snowy curve of County Road D, Town of Webster.  He went off road, down a steep embankment, through a farm fence belonging to Gene Allen, and struck some trees.  He did not report any injuries.

12/2  Hayley Schmitz, Boscobel, lost control of his vehicle on a snowy curve of US Highway 14, Town of Coon.  He went off road and struck the embankment but did not suffer any injuries.

12/4  Philip Benson, Viola, lost control of his vehicle on a snow-covered straight stretch of State Highway 82, Town of Union.  He went off road and overturned, but reported no injuries.

12/4 Arthur Benson, De Soto, lost control of his vehicle on an icy stretch of Wire Hollow Road, Town of Harmolny.   He crossed the oncoming traffic lane, went off road and struck some trees.  No injuries were reported.

12/5  A Town of Kickapoo resident was notified that he won a car and a large sum of money from a sweepstakes he hadn’t entered.  He was asked to send $299, or “whatever he could afford.”   A Town of Viroqua resident was called numerous times and told to get a WalMart card to pay the $200 tax on a new vehicle which she had won.  Both scams were untraceable.

12/8  Don Loefflad, Viroqua, lost control of his vehicle on a curve of Norwegian Hollow Roqad, Town of Jefferson.  He crossed the oncoming traffic lane, went down an embankment and struck a tree.  Loefflad did not report any injuries at the time of the crash.

12/8  Road sign damage was reported as follows:

Intersection signs at County Road N and NN, Town of Sterling;

Stop sign at County Road J and Jones Road, Town of Franklin;

Stop sign at State Highway 82 and State Highway 27, Town of Franklin;

Stop signs in West Prairie, Town of Sterling.

12/09                5 reportable car/deer crashes:

Gary Jaworski, Chaseburg, on County Road KK, Town of Harmony;

Steven Rumppe, Westby, on State Highway 162, Village of Coon Valley;

Joshua Ostrem, Viroqua, on US Highway 14, Town of Viroqua;

Todd Whisler, Genoa, on State Highway 35, Town of Genoa;

Lisa Cornwell, Mt Sterling, on State Highway 82, Town of Viroqua.
