Vernon County Sheriff John Spears Reports
10/21 Steven Meyer, Westby, was hauling unsecured sawdust bales southbound on State Highway 27, Town of Christiana. Cora Lewicki, Westby, was northbound on State Highway 27. One of the sawdust bales fell off of the Meyer truck and landed in front of Lewicki in the northbound lane. She was unable to avoid striking it, but reported no injuries in the ensuing crash. Her vehicle had to be towed due to damages.
10/22 Nolan Everson, DeSoto, swerved to miss a deer on Rag Hollow Road, Town of Sterling, and struck the embankment instead. He reported no injuries.
10/25 Sandra Elliott, DeSoto, swerved to miss a deer on State Highway 35, Town of Bergen. She crossed the center lane, struck the guardrail, crossed the centerline again and came to rest at the side of the road, suffering minor injuries.
10/25 Alice Staples, McGregor, was eastbound on State Highway 82, Town of Webster, when a calf belonging to Henry Haugrud ran into the road, striking the Staples vehicle. The car sustained major damage, but the calf walked away from the scene. No injuries were reported by Staples.
10/27 The Department responded to 7 trespassing complaints during the week.
