SHERIFF JOHN SPEARS REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ONGOING ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR AND NARRATIVE EXCERPTS FROM THE WEEK ENDING May 5, 2014.
4/28 Brian Kerndt, Waukon, was eastbound on Main Street, Village of Stoddard, driving a Caledonia Haulers semi. He saw a car in the center of the road and swerved to miss it. He hit the ditch culvert and embankment, but no injuries were reported.
5/2 Between the end of deer season and today a cabin on Fox Ridge Road, Town of Greenwood was burglarized. Copper pipes and wire were stripped from the cabin. Damage was done causing all of the lp gas to leak out of the tank. A window was broken and siding destroyed.
5/5 Spring is in the air. The Sheriff’s Office investigated numerous complaints of trespassing this week. Additionally, the following incidents were investigated:
*a cow in the road on State Highway 82, Town of Union;
*30 head of cattle in the road on County Road PC, Town of Christiana:
*beef and Jersey cattle out near Little Ridge Road, Town of Wheatland;
*a black dog chasing cattle near County Road N, Town of Sterling;
*Black Angus in the road at County Road K, Town of Genoa;
*3 horses out on County Road SS, Town of Liberty;
*a white hound chasing deer near County Road U, Town of Kickapoo;
*3 horses/mules out near County Road C, Town of Greenwood;
*cattle out on State Highway 56, Town of Viroqua;
*16 horses in the road at County Road NN, Town of Franklin;
*a calf in the road at State Highway 82, Town of Webster;
*4 hounds chasing cattle at County Road W, Town of Hillsboro;
*cattle out on Chipmunk Ridge Road, Town of Bergen.
The Sheriff’s office also noted 10 incidences of lost and found dogs, and one found peacock on Barstad Road, Town of Viroqua.
5/5 4 reportable car/deer crashes:
Joseph Huber, Viroqua, on County Road B, Town of Coon;
Jacob Hamilton, La Farge, on State Highway 131, Town of Stark;
Dana Krachtt, Blue River, on US Highway 14, Town of Coon;
Ingrid Constalie, Westby, on US Highway 14, Town of Coon.
