The Tomah Memorial Foundation is helping to meet an increased need for prescription medicine to aid Monroe County residents.  Officials from the philanthropic arm of Tomah Memorial Hospital have donated $2,500 to the Sparta-based Saint Clare Health Mission of Monroe County. Saint Clare Medical Director Doctor Emma Ledbetter says medication costs are the biggest budget item for the mission which provided free health care to more than 900 patients this year. “Providing medicines for our patients is essential. If they can a doctor, but can’t afford their medication, it doesn’t do any good. And that’s the beauty of St. Clare’s Health Mission, is that we are treating our fellow citizens, people who need help,” said Ledbetter. Ledbetter said the foundation’s donation will pay for about one month’s worth of medicine. She said they have seen an increase in people who have lost insurance and jobs and realize they need medical care that they cannot afford. She said clinic relies on grants and private donations to provide care to patients.
